Staff changes are coming to the Chamber
Some staff changes are in the works at the Boyne Area Chamber. Associate Director Kim MacNaughton has accepted a position with local CPA Ralph Gillett, and her last day at the Chamber will be Feb. 9th. We thank Kim for her dedicated service to the Chamber and wish her well in her future endeavors. In the interim, the Chamber has hired Pam Chipman and Melissa Jollette to staff the Chamber office starting Feb. 10. Executive Director Baumann noted that both Pam and Melissa have both worked for the Chamber previously and will be able to step in right away and keep the office running smoothly. Baumann has been working with the Chamber board for the last several months on a succession plan for his own retirement, which will take effect in November. Baumann has held the director position for the past eight years and will continue to work for the Chamber in a part-time position after he retires. The Chamber is now starting to advertise for its next executive director. Click here for a job description and further details. The Chamber Board hopes to interview and hire the new director in the next few months, which would allow the new person to work with Baumann during a transition period. The new director would then be involved in hiring a new Associate Director.
> For further information, contact Jim Baumann at 231-675-8793 or Board President Emily Wilmot at 231-459-1471.

History uncovered in Boyne City building renovation project
From the Petoskey News-Review: Crews working to renovate the building at 202 and 206 South Lake Street space recently uncovered a glimpse into Boyne City's past. Workers with Integrity Construction working at the site for Catt Development to renovate the building into a restaurant and retail space, recently removed a portion of the existing siding to reveal earlier brick work with a sign painted on it from a business that previously occupied the building. The portion of the sign still visible is for Drenth and Sons Lumber and Building Supply. Full story.
> Asuka Barden sent us this note about Drenth & Sons: "My grandpa (Ed Barden) said that it wasn't around very long. There was also another hardware store inside the depot at one time. But in that Lake Street building he said he used to go downstairs and shoot guns because there was a gun range down in the basement. He said they also used to raise chickens in there. Just some fun facts." (Photo courtesy of Brian Kozminski) |

Control moisture to prevent mold
KorthaseFlinn Insurance and Financial Services is providing some mold prevention tips. Most homeowners dread the thought of having to deal with a mold problem, but by practicing some simple prevention tips, you can greatly reduce your mold risks. The key to mold prevention is moisture control. When excessive amounts of moisture accumulate indoors, mold growth occurs if the problem is not corrected quickly and properly. While it is impossible to eliminate all molds and spores from the air, it is possible to control indoor moisture, and therefore curb mold growth in your home. More tips on this info sheet.
