New owners for Red Mesa, Cafe Sante
From The Ticker: One of Northern Michigan's largest restaurant groups is under new ownership - a deal that could pave the way for future expansion in the market.
Fred Moore, Mary Palmer and Jim Cartwright signed a deal Monday to sell their ownership stake in Magnum Hospitality, a company that includes Pearl's New Orleans Kitchen in Elk Rapids, Red Mesa Grill in Traverse City and Boyne City and Cafe Santé in Boyne City. An investment group led by long-time Michigan restaurateurs Mark and Barbara Wibel and Steve Rossi - who will head company operations - is set to take over. "We think Fred and Jim and Mary have done an amazing job with these restaurants, and we don't intend to change that," says Rossi. Long-term, however, "small tweaks" to the restaurants are possible - as is overall expansion. Several sources familiar with the company say discussions have included the possibility of eventually franchising Red Mesa Grill. While Rossi says it's "too early in the game" to discuss specifics, he adds that "nothing is off the table" for the company. Full story.

Boyne City looking for redemption in regional final at TC St. Francis
From the Petoskey News-Review: Second chances aren't guaranteed in life. So when one comes along, it's an opportunity that shouldn't be squandered. That opportunity is what the Boyne City football team has in front of it heading into a rematch with Traverse City St. Francis at 7 p.m. tonight, Friday, at Thirlby Field in the regional final. On Sept. 26, Boyne City clashed with the undefeated and top-ranked Gladiators and came out on the wrong end of a 32-13 loss, their only defeat of the season. Now, the Ramblers have a chance to make amends for that defeat and propel themselves into a second straight semifinal. "I think everyone on the team felt we left a lot of points on the field in that game, and none of us were satisfied with the way we played," Boyne City coach Dave Hills said. Full story.
> RSN BROADCAST - For those who can't make it to the game, the Rambler Sports Network will broadcast live audio at 6:55 p.m. Per MHSSA rules, one hour after the game, you can relive all the action, replays and coverage by RSN. The broadcast is available by clicking the game graphic at www.boyne.k12.mi.us. As an audio-only broadcast, there will be NO password. Thanks to sponsors Boyne City Triathlon, Dr. Danielle Swartz/Progressive Dental Care and Great Lakes iPhone Repair for making this broadcast possible.
Get a Rambler window cling for your car
Boyne City Planning Director Scott McPherson designed a poster for display at City Hall that supports the Rambler football team. The Boyne City Police Department took it one step further and with help from Classic Instruments had window decals made up for all of the patrol cars. Chief Gaither said, "Everywhere I went today, people asked how they could get a window decal like that. So I called John again and inquired about making up some more decals. John said Classic Instruments was happy to donate more decals to support the Ramblers." The "Boyne Tough" window decals are now available for a donation of $6 at the High School Athletic office and the Boyne Chamber office. The money raised will go to the Boyne City High School Athletic Department to help support the team.

Waterfront park concepts to be unveiled at Boyne on the Water session Tuesday
After three public input sessions, a final plan for improving Boyne City's waterfront parks will be unveiled Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the community hall of St. Matthew Church, 1303 Boyne Avenue. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the session will begin at 6. Also on the agenda will be a discussion of next steps, including who will lead the ongoing effort, and options for funding. For more information about the project, and some of the ideas presented in previous sessions, visit the city's website. MARRIAGE TIPS FROM A DIVORCE COACH
is the topic at Lifetree Café on Sunday, November 15 at 6:30 p.m. The program features a filmed interview with Sue Brans, a relationship expert who helps couples determine if they should stay in unhappy marriages - or leave. "Many couples find that things aren't going the way they want, but they don't know what to do about it," says Brans, who offers practical insights on how to strengthen a troubled marriage. Lifetree Café is a place where people gather for conversation about life and faith in a casual coffeehouse-type setting in the community room at First Presbyterian Church, 401 S Park St., Boyne City. Admission to the 60-minute events is free. For more information call Julie Hasse at 231-582-7983 or email lifetree@fpboyne.org.
