Longtime librarian dies after fighting cancer
Nancy Fulkerson, long-time reference librarian at the Boyne District Library, has passed away at the age of 65. Nancy had been fighting cancer. After graduating from high school Nancy began working at the library and stayed for 35 years, retiring in May. Nancy was a part of the library becoming a District Library, automating the catalog, moving the library for a year while the building was expanded, and developing the historical and genealogical sections of the library among other accomplishments.
Assistant Library Director Monica Kroondyk commented, "It has been a tough week for the library. First with the loss of former board member Ed Vondra, and Wednesday with the loss of our former Reference librarian Nancy Fulkerson. Nancy was a valuable member of the library family. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her knowledge of local history was matched by few. She loved her family, friends, and community very much. We lost a good one." Condolence cards will be forwarded to her family downstate; they can be sent to the Boyne District Library at 201 East Main St. Boyne City, Mi. 49712.
