MANITOBA REPORT

Darren Kalyniuk

Manitoba Director, CGSA

Well the end of the season has finally arrived for the majority of Supers in Manitoba.  With only a handful working throughout the winter months, it's a great time for many to take that much deserved break before starting to prepare for next season.

The slow start in the spring and into the first part of June definitely had an impact on the rounds of golf going through each course.  However once summer did arrive things got back on track and all in all the season went well for many courses.

Next on the list for the MGSA is the annual Manitoba Golf Turf Conference and AGM being held November 12 to 14th.  They have a great speaker line of up over those 3 days with both local and from abroad with one being our CGSA President Christian Pilon MS speaking to the group about "WHY CGSA?"  Other speakers include local entomologist Taz Stuart who was the former Head Entomologist for the City of Winnipeg speaking on a variety of pest issues as well as local Superintendent Dustin How of Southwood Golf & Country Club speaking about the transformation of their new club since its property move a few years back.

This year will mark a first for the MGSA to have a dedicated Equipment Technicians part to the conference focused on reel technology and fleet maintenance of golf carts.  We hope this section builds each year as we all know how important Equipment Technicians are to our courses and industry. I feel it's going to be a great show.

Lastly, I wanted to remind everyone if you haven't already to take advantage of the savings for the upcoming 2015 CITCTS being held in Calgary.  You can register online or call the CGSA offices and they would be more than happy to assist.

I hope everyone has a successful winter and I look forward to seeing many of you in Calgary.

Quebec Report

John Scott

Quebec Director, CGSA

As November rolls in we are all starting to put our courses to bed. Irrigation systems blown out, deep tine verifying, fall fungicide applications and construction and drainage projects are finishing up. Superintendents are finishing up their record keeping log books for their agronomist to certify and send into the ministry of environment. Very busy time of year but the snow is on its way and we will be able to have some down time until the conferences and trade shows start up.

The CITCTS is being held in Calgary this February 2-6 and will have a great education  and social program. I  look forward to seeing and meeting new friends in February.

Quebec Golf Course Superintendents Association and Quebec Turfgrass Research Foundation in partnership held its fall golf tournament together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the QGSA. This event was held at The Royal Quebec Golf Club. Michel Tardif had his golf course in great condition for this very important event. The evening was a look back at the start of the association and throughout the 50 years. It was a great event to be a part.
