On the 7th annual Give to the Max Day, $18.3 million dollars was raised for more than 5,500 Minnesota nonprofits and schools. This was CURE's 5th year participating in the 24-hour philanthropy spree, and it was a success! 54 people donated a total of $4,233. We were awarded our first GiveMN "Golden Ticket" bringing in an additional $1,000 to the organization. The total for the day was $5,233 with an additional $2,500 coming in through monthly pledges in 2016.

The money raised through the sale of Roderick MacIver prints will directly fund CURE's 2016 Events and Adventures. We connect people to Minnesota's great outdoors through our educational events and experiential adventures. In 2015, we connected over 1,000 people to the Minnesota River Basin's landscape and wildlife. Next year, we'd like to increase that number by hosting more events and adventures.

Member Story

On Saturday, October 31st, CURE's first online auction ended with the winning bid going to Ben Tokheim, son of Lucy and Gene Tokheim of Dawson, MN.

"I am glad that he (Ben) will have something that I helped to build," said Gene. "Ben will take good care of it and treasure it as an example of fine woodcraft and a living tradition."

For the staff at CURE, we are happy to see the Pram come out of storage and be passed on to the next generation in a family of paddling artisans.

CURE Board Member Athena Kildegaard and CURE Member Arne Kildegaard will be attending the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference on behalf of the University of MN. The conference will take place from November 30th to December 11th in Paris, France. The governments of more than 190 nations will gather to discuss a possible new global agreement on climate change, aimed at reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and thus avoiding the threat of dangerous climate change. Click here to learn more about the Paris climate summit.

Athena and Arne have agreed to share their experience at the Paris climate summit with CURE. We look forward to sharing their experience and perspective with you over the next few weeks.
Energy Program

Attention Rural Electric Co-op Members - Take our Survey

CURE is conducting a Survey to gather important information and opinion from Rural Electric Cooperative (REC) member-owners. Rural Electric Co-ops serve 85% of Minnesota's land area. The opinions of today's REC member-owners are needed in order to plan for an equitable, co-operative, and self-reliant rural energy future. At CURE, we want to begin a conversation with REC member-owners about the growing opportunity for clean energy generation and customer-driven energy efficiency programs made available to co-op member-owners through their REC.

Events and Adventures

If you have ever been on a hike and wondered how that large boulder got in the middle of that farmer's field or discovered a new flower on the prairie, we have just the opportunity for you. This coming spring CURE will be hosting a Prairies and Potholes Biome Minnesota Master Naturalist volunteer training.
