2013 Monte-Granite Riverfront Disc Classic
This Saturday & Sunday,      July 13th & 14th

Two Cities, One River, 36 Holes of Disc Golf...on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m., the public is invited to come to the Sunset Lodge #109 Disc Golf Course in Lagoon Park, Montevideo and learn the basics of disc golf.
  • First 100 participants will receive a free disc
  • Four stations will teach basic disc skills and beginning at 10:00 a.m. there will be open recreational play to practice those skills.

Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. for those folks with a few skills under their belt for the first ever Monte-Granite Riverfront Disc Golf Classic.  This non-sanctioned open will have three categories for competition: Men's, Women's and Youth.  The entry fee is $10 per person. There will be prizes awarded on Sunday after the two-day, 36-hole event.

Here is where the "something for everyone" comes in - Saturday evening at the Wegdahl County Park along the Minnesota River.

  • At 7:00 pm, there will be a Disc Golf Exhibition throwing contest.  This is a great way to learn more about the sport and see why people are so interested in this fun outdoor sport. There will be a light supper.
  • Event is free and open to the public - SO bring your lawn chairs, bug spray and interest.
  • There will be smores and a campfire beginning at 8:30 pm.  Come join in the fun!
Sunday morning beginning at 10 am people will finish the last 18 holes at the River's Edge Disc Golf Course in downtown Granite Falls.  The winners and awards will be announced at approximately 1:00 p.m. or when the play finishes.  Disc Golf Classic Map

Safety First
Before your next trip, be prepared and consider your safety first.

Dam Safety A recent story from the Granite Falls Advocate Tribune, "Pair of paddlers happy to be alive after rescue from Minnesota River, Granite Falls Dam,"  prompted us to repeat our safety segment of this email.

Here is a great article full of graphics to explain what you can do to get yourself out of dangerous situations.

We would like to acknowledge the dangers that recreation on water may create while boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming or whatever the activity may be. Before going on a trip, one should always check the weather forecast and conditions of the water before embarking on the trip.

The Department of Natural Resource (DNR) website contains a wealth of knowledge on what you need to know about taking precautions before getting on to the river.

Here are a few more helpful links from the DNR website to check out before your next trip:
