Introducing CURE's 2013 Summer Intern, Diana Moe!
As part of our new Events & Adventures program, we have hired Diana Moe to intern for the summer. A senior in Environmental Science, Moe will work with the CURE staff to facilitate a variety of summer programs.
Moe spent her first two years at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls before transferring to Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) in Marshall to be closer to home and family in Watson. Last year, Moe participated in the Minnesota Conference of Undergraduate Scholarly and Creative Activity and gave dissertations on Insect Diversity and Spanish Influenza. While at SMSU, she participates in the Biology Club, Environmental Awareness Club, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and was the Senior Cross Country Captain.
Diana is the daughter of Steve and Cathy Buelow, Watson, MN and David Moe, Northfield, MN. When not busy with work, she enjoys fishing, running and hanging out with her nieces and nephew.

Hiking in the Prairie Smoke School Nature Area
Not a paddler? Then get outdoors and hike with Matt this Saturday, July 20th, at 9 AM in Granite Falls
As a Minnesota Master Naturalist, Matt Kubly will lead a walk through the Prairie Smoke School Nature Trail and assist participants in identifying a variety of plant life and invasive species. This area is owned by the Yellow Medicine East School District and was acquired in the early 1970's. Through a grant in the 1990's, the nature area was developed and is still used today for biking and school activities. There are no restrooms at this location. Click here for more information. CURE Member Fee: FREE Non-CURE Member Fee: $5 for adults and kids are free with an adult Where to meet: At Winter Park in the 700 block of 11th Street in Granite Falls at 9 AM at the shelter at Winter Park (700 block of 11th Street) and participants will walk three blocks to the trail head. What to bring: Please wear long pants, hat, sturdy walking shoes/boots, sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle and a camera if you would like. Paddle the Chippewa
Paddle the Minnesota River Watershed with Wild River Academy this Saturday, July 20th
Only 4 spots left for this trip unless you have your own canoe and kayak. This day trip will be approximately 3 hours. Participants will put in at Lentz Landing just off of County Road 40 behind the Easy Bean Farm at 10 AM and paddle the Watson Sag to the Lion's Park just outside of Watson. Click here for map. CURE Member fee is $25 and registration is open Non-CURE Member fee $35 and registration is open Minimum number of participants is 6 and maximum is 15 You should pack your own lunch. Dress in layers, bring sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle, sunglasses, hat and a camera if you like. Items should be put in a ziplock bag to keep water out. For more information, click here. Tour the Gneiss Outcrops SNA
Hike with Don during the evening on Wednesday, July 24th, at 5 PM
Join us next week for a beautiful evening hike with CURE Board Member and Master Naturalist - Don Robertson. Bring a sack lunch and meet at 5 PM to visit about the area and learn a bit about the importance of the river valley to the Dakota people. Raised in the Ortonville area and currently residing in Belview, Robertson brings a bit of his own experience and love of the river valley to this outdoor adventure. Click here for more information.
