Convention
Bless his heart," the Dalai Lama has decided to come to Indianapolis the same day as 300 + Psi Otes are converging on the city, creating a need for every hotel room on the east and north side to be "booked." I think we have a hotel room for all the chapters needing them. A big "Thank You" to those chapters who have communicated with me. You helped make some swapping possible.
The convention hall is on the east end (back of the hotel) nearest the LaQuinta, which is now being rebranded as the Indianapolis Conference Center Hotel. Some of our hotel rooms are in that end of the building, and some are closer to the main entrance, at the west end of the hotel. If you are bringing Sales Room supplies, make sure to unload near the east end, or bring a cart.
This Marriott is more of a "stickler" with making sure that who has registered for the room is the one checking in to the hotel room. For instance, if there are 2 rooms reserved in my name, I must be the one to check in at the desk, show ID and get the key. I will do my best to check the hotel reservation list against the delegates attending, and contact those that need to update their reservation confirmation.
AGAIN - If, for any reason, you wish to cancel your hotel reservation, PLEASE DO NOT do it. Please let me know so that the room can be used for another chapter attending. If the room is cancelled, it goes in to the hotel's pool of rooms, and will NOT be available to us.
There is another convention in our hotel the same weekend....and it is a men's group! We will still plan to take over the "important" facility when necessary.
Long Term Project We need a "push" going in to the national convention to contribute to the Long Term Project, the Stuttering Clinic at the University of Toledo. Dr. Gabel was very pleasantly surprised last year at convention, when we were able to present him with a nice check. Let's give what we can give so we can present him with an even larger check at this convention! On a Personal Note... I have looked forward to this convention for almost 30 years. When I attended my very first convention, Leslie Bookout was National President, and it was held at South Bend. I told myself I would like to be National President someday. I got to visit most of the Southeast District chapters in the early 90's as their District Officer. I was blessed to be asked back on National Council by Diana Lamb and appointed to National Project Chair by Janice Stagg. I will forever be in debt to my chapter, Alpha Chi, Hagerstown for supporting me and committing to do this convention. The other goal I set for myself was to visit all the chapters while on National Council. So that I can spend the month of June concentrating on convention preparation, I squeezed in a couple additional visits in May and reached 100! I will visit the remaining 8 or so chapters next year, while I am still on Council, as Advisor. My 100th visit was to Eta Chi, Martinsville. Pictured, I believe, are Charter members attending that evening.
CALLING ALL PSI OTES! I look forward to seeing all of you at convention, at the Marriott East in Indianapolis, June 24th to 26th!

Alpha Day Nursery History
Alpha, Muncie, Indiana
This article was written by Ruth Ball Harker, who passed away this year.
"During Christmas week we gave a party for our youngsters at the Day Nursery. There was a gaily decorated tree towering to the ceiling. Santa Claus himself could not be there so he sent his little son who wasn't any bigger than some of the children! There were some Christmas stories told by a Psi Iota Xi, some Christmas songs by the children, plenty of ice cream, cake and candy, and balls for the boys and dishes for the girls. Every little face wore a big smile!
I have been saving the biggest piece of news of the last and it has been very hard to keep. It's this, -- we have a new, bigger and better home for our Day Nursery! The house was donated to us by Mrs. Frank C. Ball of Muncie, Mrs. Otis Adams of Indianapolis, and Mr. Arthur Brady of Anderson, for the use of the Day Nursery for five years. We sent invitations to every club belonging to the Federation, and to other civic and social organizations for our opening on
February 8th. By actual count two hundred and five persons called between two and six that afternoon to inspect the house and talk over the Day Nursery with us over a cup of tea and sandwiches.
We had to purchase more equipment for the new house and redecorate the rooms. This larger house will also mean a larger operating expense. We placed a box so that those who wished to might drop in silver to aid us in meeting these added expenses. During the afternoon $35.00 was dropped into the box! An interested friend sent potted plants and cut flowers to decorate the house for the opening. Since then we have received gifts of cretonne curtains, pictures, high chairs, two dozen bibs (made by a club at its meetings) and some sheets."
The building that originally housed Alpha's Day Nursery was retained after the Nursery closed and it is still in use today, as their thrift shop, known as the "Bargain Box."

New Calendar at www.psiiotaxi.org
Have you seen the new addition to the National Website? All Chapter Presidents, State Presidents and National Council members can log in and add events to the calendar.
Updated Bylaws can be found on the website. Click here to go there now.
Now Available - YourChapter@psiiotaxi.org
Why should YOUR chapter have its own email address?
- All PIX communications will be centralized into one mailbox. ONE dedicated email account for all communications instead of multiple personal email addresses.
- Address will stay the same even when the president and/or treasurer changes. No communications will be lost because National was not made aware of an address change or update.
- Chapter controls password and access so only the president, treasurer and whomever they choose can have access to the chapter's email. The password can be changed when officers change to protect access.
- Streamlines communications from National to all chapters. Nothing will be missed because someone did not read her email.
Contact Heather Mitchell, National Editor, for details about establishing your chapter's new email address.
Helicon
Each chapter receives two Helicons. If your chapter would like to purchase more please let me know. The cost is $4 per Helicon.
Thank you to those of you who have supplied me chapter member email addresses to update. If your chapter members are not registered on the website please send me their email addresses and I will get them their log in credentials.
