Our Psi Ote year is half over. Thousands and thousands of cheeseballs have been made. Thousands of dollars have been donated to our PIX communities and thousands of hours have been donated by members, both to Psi Iota Xi and to other organizations in our communities. I hope all of you were able to take time off to enjoy friends and family the last few weeks. Speaking of cheeseballs - what ingredients go into your chapter's cheeseballs? What makes yours different from every other chapter? How do you package and distribute them? What size and price are they? How many times during the year do you make them or sell them? Do you mix them, package them or buy them already pre-made? We should somehow share or network more about how all of our delicious cheeseballs come to fruition. It would be difficult, in June, to have a cheeseball "buffet," and we would not be able to do so due to regulations of the hotel, but wouldn't it be neat to network about all of the differences? As I have travelled I have found there to be SO MANY variations in the way they are made, packaged and distributed. Please feel free to share your ideas with me on how we can do this as a part of convention. As an inspiration, go to the website and review our cheeseball video. It can be found at the bottom of the featured videos. Alpha Chi is well into working on plans for the national convention in June. We have just recently met with our convention sales manager and gone over meal costs. If you purchase a ticket for the Saturday morning breakfast, which will probably be optional, the total for meals and registration will probably be just over $200 per delegate. Registration packets will go out in late February or early March with all the details and forms. Our convention "commercial" video has now been posted to the website if you would like to share it at one of your meetings. It was a big "hit" at convention. In one of the first newsletters this PIX year, I asked for chapters to contribute pictures and stories of their activities for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate good in the Sales Room at convention. Come on, ladies! I know you are having fun out there. Let's show the rest of the Psi Ote world what fun we are having! Please submit your pictures and stories to Heather or I for publication in the newsletter.

On Saturday, December 5, 2015, the Indiana State Association Officers hosted the first Past State Presidents Breakfast. It was held at Smith Valley United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Greenwood. Those in attendance were Past State Presidents Patsy Dumas ('78 & 79), Brenda Bonner ('96), Brenda Fisher ('97), Kathy Shupe ('01), Georgiann Coons ('03), Alice Rogers ('06), Norma Lemasters ('07), Carie Johann ('09 & 10), Maureen Dix ('12 & 13) and Terri Resler ('15). A delicious breakfast was served and then each Past President shared a memory with the group about the year of their presidency and State Meeting. Some interesting stories were shared and will always be remembered. An ornament was given to each attendee as a favor to take home. Indiana State President, Mickie Hansen shared a few words about the Indiana State Association and thanked the Past State Presidents for their contributions to the Association. Their hard work in the past has made it the success of today and going into the future. It was a wonderful time and the hope is for it to grow to an annual meeting for this wonderful group of Sisters. Any Past State President with any updates to their contact information are asked to contact the State Officers so that can be kept up to date.
Door prizes were given away to: Brenda Bonner, Alice Rogers and Pam Gunterman. Other State Officers that were in attendance were Vice President, Pam Gunterman, Project Chair, Deedra Runyan and Secretary, Shirley Herrick.

The Metropolitan Opera National Council conducts annual auditions for young singers to go on to perform at the Met in New York in the following season. Approximately 1,500 singers first compete in one of 42 districts in the United States. The top few from each district are advanced by Met approved judges to advance to their one of thirteen regions. Top singers from the Illinois, Indiana and Ohio Districts participated in the Met Opera Audition Central Region Finals on Sunday November 22, 2015. The Finals were conducted in Nichols Hall of the Music Institute of Chicago in Evanston, Illinois. Eleven very talented young singers competed in this regional final audition. The top two, Soprano Ann Toomey and Bass-Baritone Christian Pursell tied for first place. Both will compete in New York at the Met Opera National Semi Finals at Lincoln Center in March 2016 for advancement to the National Finals one week later. Second place regional winner soprano Mathilda Edge received a prize of $3,000 that was underwritten by Psi Iota Xi. Pictured L-R: Christian, Ann and Mathilda holding their certificates.

Camp Shout Out values connecting with others as individuals through strong communication skills from the moment participants arrive. The camp, held for approximately one week in August on Big Blue Lake in Holton, Michigan, engages children ages 8-18 who stutter in a state-of-the-art therapeutic experience and a selected group of trainees including speech-language pathologists and graduate students in a hands-on learning opportunity. The program is embedded within a traditional overnight, recreational summer camp where all participants stay throughout the week. The natural camp environment, noted for helping children make friends and take on new challenges, provides the perfect backdrop for enhancing Communicative Competence, defined as one's ability and desire to be an Attentive, Assertive, Confident, Effective, and Proactive communicator in his or her unique way. Did you know Patricia (Mrs. Richard Milhouse) Nixon was a Psi Ote? She was awarded Honorary Conferred status in 1970. She replied on White House Stationery, that she was unable to accept the honor personally. "It was most thoughtful of you and the members of Psi Iota Xi to invite me to become an Honorary Member of your sorority. I shall be most happy to accept your kind offer if in this limited way I can express my great interest in your splendid programs. However, I do not foresee a time when I shall be able to accept this honor personally, as much as I would like to. With appreciation and best wishes for great success with all of your undertakings, Sincerely, Patricia Nixon"
Mrs. Francis E. Warner, of Bloomington, Indiana, was National President that year.

From the Editor's Desk
In case you missed it:
Now Available - Chapter email addresses
Why should YOUR chapter have its own email address?
- All PIX communications will be centralized into one mailbox. ONE dedicated email account for all communications instead of multiple personal email addresses.
- Address will stay the same even when the president and/or treasurer changes. No communications will be lost because National was not made aware of an address change or update.
- Chapter controls password and access so only the president, treasurer and whomever they choose can have access to the chapter's email. The password can be changed when officers change to protect access.
- Streamlines communications from National to all chapters. Nothing will be missed because someone did not read her email.
Contact Heather Mitchell, National Editor, for details about establishing your chapter's new email address.
Thank you to those of you who have supplied me chapter member email addresses to update. If your chapter members are not registered on the website please send me their email addresses and I will get them their log in credentials.

Are you on Facebook? If so, stop by and say "Hello."
We have two pages with two different purposes. Main Page (accessible by this icon), is public and has posts from Psi Iota Xi that you may comment on. The Group Page is where you can opt in and post questions or ideas and get input from your sisters. It's currently public but, if you prefer, it can be made a private/closed group for members only. On this page, you can also announce events and activities with all of us there as well as recap the fun with photos! Don't forget that you can also add images to your comments!
Let us know what's going on in your chapter. Post images from chapter meetings and events. Let us know about significant happenings in your life - new baby/grandchild, new job, promotion, retirement, marriage, engagement, or whatever you'd like to share with your Psi Iota Xi sisters. We'd love to celebrate with you!
