Dates to Remember

Greetings!

Message from our National President - Kim Crawley

Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Perhaps the first and possibly the biggest benefit people get from volunteering is the satisfaction of incorporating service into their lives and making a difference in their own community and country.

Pride, satisfaction and accomplishment are all intangible benefits alone and worthwhile reasons to serve. In addition, when we give of our time and talents we also:

  • Solve problems
  • Strengthen our communities
  • Improve lives
  • Make a connection to others
  • And transform our own lives

All very good reasons to volunteer right?!

By Laws Changes

Thanks to all the chapters who have already sent their chapter bylaw changes to me at marciamohre@gmail.com for approval.

Remember to send your old bylaws along with your new changes so that I know what changes are being proposed! The deadline is April 1, and bylaw changes will not be approved after that date. So get them organized and keep them simple!

If you prefer to send them via US Postal Service, mail to: Marcia Mohre, 04549 County Road H, Edon, OH 43518. I can be reached at 419.212.3004 if you have questions.

ALL ABOARD - Motivated Psi Otes Needed for DO Positions

PIX WANTED

Thanks to all of the Chapter Presidents in the NW and SE Districts who have responded to the requests for District Officer nominees! It's been wonderful to chat via email with so many of you, and I appreciate your efforts to encourage your chapter sisters to apply for the positions.

While there have been a couple of inquiries about the level of commitment and time, we still do not have any definite applicants. Time is crunching us now to make some decisions as the new DO prospects need to be discussed and approved at the upcoming National Council meeting in March.

If you've been waiting to talk about your interest in being a District Officer, now is the time to make your decision and give me a call or email! It's an excellent time to become involved with Psi Iota Xi at a whole new level!

Contact me immediately at 419.212.3004 or at marciamohre@gmail.com. Thanks for stepping up!

Your National Vice President, Marcia Mohre

Message from National Treasurer - Susie Lewis

Greetings from your National Treasurer!
Clover
Happy St Patrick's Day!

Presidents and Treasurers especially, please read the following carefully.

First and foremost, if your chapter receives any communication/letter from the IRS, please forward it to your National Treasurer.
This year there will be an additional form coming with the PCR to Chapter Treasurers.

Form NP20 for Indiana chapters only: The NP20, needed by INDIANA chapters only, will be included with the letter to the Treasurers regarding the PCR (Pre-Convention Report). This should be returned to the District Officer, along with the two (2) Signature pages from the PCR. We will continue that process from here forward, for Indiana chapters. The National Treasurer will then submit all the NP20s together to the State of Indiana Department of Revenue.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 765.238.0300.

Loyally,

Susie Lewis

Leadership - PIX Chapter Secretaries - SWEET

We all have a tendency to feel that the leader of our chapter is the President. Well, that is correct, but not fully accurate. Each of your chapter's officers is an outstanding leader.

Where would the wheel be without the axle, where would the car engine be without the starter, how would the pie taste without the oven, and where would each of our outstanding chapters be without each member and the offices that many hold? Presidents will all communicate that they couldn't do their job without each officer in their slate of officers.

Secretaries March2013 Some of our chapters, out of necessity have had to combine the recording and corresponding secretary duties. We tip our hats to you in being flexible and doing whatever it takes to keep your chapter functioning in the best possible scenario for the good of all.

You can all read the duties of these two offices in the by-laws and the officers' handbook so I will not reiterate those to you. However, I wanted to take the time to expand and share some thoughts on the secretaries' duties.

Secretaries, in general are record keepers and I cannot express in words the special place you hold in the entire history of this national organization. In taking roll call you hold the history of each member and their years, in taking minutes, you hold the history of your chapter and help us at the National level keep the history of ALL chapters.

Now from the beginning of this article, you may have all wondered why I used the acronym SWEET. Here it is, secretaries:

S
- Save our records, histories, attendance, directories, Helicon entries and correspondence.

W- Work diligently to make sure all is in order.

E- Explain all correspondence thoroughly to your membership.

E- Educate and energize your membership on their connection with National by sharing the importance of the correspondence.

T-Talk at meetings- The secretaries have the chance at meetings to speak, therefore always having the chance to be a positive PIX member in their role as an officer.

On a personal note, I would like to remind you that at Convention 2015, we will focus on our history and "the bridge that connects our history to our future possibilities" in this wonderful organization. In saying that kudos to our SECRETARIES and all the work they do in recording our history. CONGRATULATIONS SWEET SECRETARIES AND THANKS.

Psi Ote of the Year and Chapter Ritual Jewel Box

March Madness! It doesn't apply just to basketball - Spring is an exciting and busy time for Psi Otes, too!

As you prepare for state meetings, Chapter projects and PCR time, please take a few minutes to consider the following:

1)  Nominate a sister for Psi Ote of the Year. Your Chapter has received the information and forms, plus they are available on the website.

2)  Inventory your Chapter's ritual tools before pledge, initiation and officer installation. Are you missing anything? Do you have a crest, Bible, candlesticks? Do you need to buy matches or a new pen? Be ready and make your rituals beautiful and meaningful.

3)  Order membership certificates for initiation from the National Office so that Liz may get them to you in a timely manner.   Use the link on the website to send her your request.

4)  Likewise, make sure you have a pin for your new members. An order form from our official jeweler, J. Lewis Small, may be found on the website, too.

And as always, please contact me if you have any questions.

Peace,

Georgiann Coons/National Conductress

Indiana State Meeting

Zeta Gamma is excited to host the 36th Indiana State Meeting April 20, at Gibson Southern High School in Fort Branch, IN.

We have a beautiful queen size quilt for a raffle item and lots of Chinese auction items. Our keynote speaker is dynamic, and I am sure that she will motivate us!

If you need any items from Liz at the National office please email her. She isn't able to attend the Indiana State Meeting, but someone will be there representing the National Office. Liz will try to fill any orders she has prior to our meeting and orders can be picked up at the National Office table at the meeting.

So, fill the car with some of your sisters and join us for the meeting and have a girls day or weekend with in Fort Branch!

Chapter Highlight

Beta Tau - Monticello, Indiana

The Beta Tau, Frankfort, IN chapter was chartered May 23, 1936. The Auxiliary chapter began in 1970. The Auxiliary chapter has more members than the active chapter. The active chapter has 26 active members, one Honorary Active, one Honorary Conferred and one Patroness. They also have one Honorary Retired member. Beta Tau has had three National Presidents come from its membership. Isabelle Reichert, Rose S. Beatty and Rae Harris were all members of Beta Tau.

Beta Tau March 2013
Kirsten Weaver collects items for "The Edge."
This Fall members collected items for the youth department at the library. They call it "The Edge." Members donated craft and supply items. This new department for teens has movie nights, art exhibits, Wii Wednesday and several other up to date programs for teens. Beta Tau is fortunate to have the inside scoop on this department. As seen in the picture with all the donated items, is Kirsten Weaver. She has been a member since 2011.

This last couple of years, the cheer committee has been featuring members at meetings and sending lots of greeting cards. There are birthday, anniversary cards, get well and sympathy cards sent when the time arises.

Recently, members have been taking meals to one of their sisters, Kari Beeler, to help her through her chemo treatments. She still does her Recording Secretary responsibilities and comes to each meeting. She is an inspiration to all. You go girl!

One of their younger members, Heidi Troyer, had a new baby boy a few months ago named, Seth. She also has an older son named, Sam. He is four years old. The cheer committee hosted a baby shower for her. They asked her to bring the boys to the meeting too. Many brought gifts and they had punch, cupcakes, mints, nuts and of course a cheese ball! Some members brought little Sam gifts too and he was playing with the gifts right away and thoroughly enjoyed them. They all got to hold Seth and lingered after the meeting as she unwrapped the gifts. This helps members get to know each other so much better.

Beta Tau has been providing childcare for members, if needed at the meetings. This helps members to be involved when they would otherwise have to miss the meeting.

Beta Tau boasts of helping all the county schools and they do a lot of giving outside of the Psi Iota Xi focus areas. When they hear of someone traveling back and forth to hospitals, they donate gas gift cards. They donate to the July fireworks, Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Family, blood banks, Hot Dog Festival, Shop with a Cop, Parkview Home and many more. Beta Tau helps sponsor the summer speech clinic, a jr/sr high school art show, an art scholarship and they even have a graduate student speech & hearing scholarship. This speech & hearing scholarship is set up through the Howard County Community Foundation. Unfortunately, last year, they did not have any applicants.

The community blesses them each year by gobbling up their cheese balls. Their other fundraiser is Ladies Night Out held in the spring.

Beta Tau is led by Stacy Gephart as President. Beta Tau donates service hours monthly toward several projects. This year will mark 77 years of service to the community!

Highlight Your Chapter

What do you and your sisters do for your local community? What special events do you have scheduled in the upcoming months? Did your group just celebrate a significant milestone? Is one of your sisters being recognized by the local community for something?

Task someone to take photos and right after the event send us all the details and include a photo or two of your sisters doing what your chapter does best. Please also identify whomever is in the photo, including their job title if they happen to be receiving a check or hold a leadership position. Describe what's happening in the photo and tell us why it's significant for your chapter. Send to heliconheather@hotmail.com  Heather will compile everything she receives and get approval from National Council to include in an upcoming newsletter.

Convention Fundraising

Convention is just a few months away. How can your Chapter raise some extra money so more members can attend??

Do you have a Schwan's delivery service in your community? Contact them about their fund raising program. You will receive a certain percentage for orders you place. On the day of delivery the driver will park in an area open to the public-perhaps a shopping center parking lot. Anyone can stop and purchase items and your Chapter will get the credit. They also sell gift cards which you can use for yourself or give as gifts. Just remember that non-members sales must be entered in the Project Fund while members' purchases can be placed in the General Fund or the Project Fund.
