Dates to Remember

Greetings!

Message from our National President - Kim Crawley

A few years ago the hospital where I work did a team member development day concerning sacred work and being a radical loving leader. This development day has stayed with me ever since in my career as a nurse, as a church member, a mother and wife, and in my volunteer work with Psi Iota Xi. I hope as you read my article on sacred work and being a radical loving leader you utilize this in your own life.

The sacred work of radical loving leadership is inspired by two books written by Erie Chapman. Although these books by Mr. Chapman are classics in the Healthcare industry I recommend that each of you read his books because the principles are applicable for anyone in a leadership role, business, or organization.

To familiarize you about this type of culture (as we say where I work-it's a culture!) or lifestyle I will define a few terms for you from Mr. Chapman's writings:

A radical is a free thinker, thinks outside of the box, challenges the status quo, an extremist for what he believes, and an agent of change, a crusader for starting a worthwhile goal, vision or specific cause.

Loving is defined by a characteristic of passionate caring to the point of ACTION and getting involved; a deep, inner motivation against all the odds to ensure the welfare of the recipient of this love.

A leader is one who casts an inspiring vision, influences others to support the vision, calls people to united action and motivates the team, group until the vision becomes a reality.

By Laws Changes

Thanks to all the chapters who have already sent their chapter bylaw changes to me at marciamohre@gmail.com for approval.

Remember to send your old bylaws along with your new changes so that I know what changes are being proposed! The deadline is April 1, and bylaw changes will not be approved after that date. So get them organized and keep them simple!

If you prefer to send them via US Postal Service, mail to: Marcia Mohre, 04549 County Road H, Edon, OH 43518. I can be reached at 419.212.3004 if you have questions.

If you know of someone who is a wonderful representative of Psi Iota Xi and would like to recommend them - or if you are interested in serving at the next level with a dynamic group of women, please contact me immediately for details.

Psi Ote of the Year and Chapter Ritual Jewel Box

PIX JEWEL BOX

In my months as serving as your National conductress, I have loved searching out information about our ritual and the symbolism it carries. But this month, I want to take a break from the historical, and focus on the present.

First, did you know that the National conductress is the overseer of the Psi Ote of the Year process? Your Chapters will be receiving the information and application this month - please take some time in your upcoming Chapter meetings to discuss Psi Ote of the Year. Applications are due back to me by April 1, but if you have any questions, please contact me any time. Next month's National conductress article will be focusing on the history of this award.

The National conductress is also responsible for Extension - the founding of new Psi Ote Chapters. Currently, one of our National Officers is meeting with a group of women who are considering forming a Chapter - this is very exciting! If you know of any potential chapters, please let me know!

Along with my other duties, this year I have taken on the challenge of making sure that every Chapter has the tools they need for our ritual, as I have noted in earlier newsletter articles. If your chapter is missing an item for the ritual, I will try to locate that item for you so that your Chapter Ritual Jewel Box may be complete.

Pax Vobiscum, my sisters!

Cheese Ball Ladies

PIX's Most Popular Fund Raiser
Cheese Ball
As you all know, more than 50 of our chapters find the time in their busy schedules to come together and whip up many varieties of delicious cheese balls. You then take orders, pick up, collect payment and deliver your delicious treats to your neighbors, friends and family. Monies made benefit your local chapter projects as well as your chapter's contribution to national projects. Many folks have taken to calling us the "Cheese Ball Ladies." We thought we'd do something with that.

Using a sweet poem written by our own Conductress, Georgiann Coons, some cheese ball making event photos shared by a couple chapters and a nice piano piece, our web/marketing team (Tony and Donna/Aradise) created a delightful video that should motivate folks to order our cheese balls and possibly join Psi Iota Xi.

Please visit our home page, turn up the volume on your speakers and watch our little cheese ball video. While there, be sure to copy the URL from your address bar and post it to Facebook. Let's use social networking media to get some new sales.
Farewell Dear Sister

Doris Donnelly Larsen
Doris Donnelly Larsen
It is with heavy hearts that we share that our dear sister and Past National President, Doris Donnelly Larsen, passed away January 28 at the age of 91.  Doris was a proud member of Gamma Xi, Crawfordsville, IN.  Services were held at Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, Crawfordsville, Indiana.

"I do remember when I was the West Central District Officer and needed to have a meeting somewhere in the middle of the West Central District.  At PNP Barbara Mitchel's suggestion, I contacted Doris and Gamma Xi.  (She) assured me I had nothing to worry about for the meeting except the meeting itself.  Although a bit skeptical, I put my trust in her.  Doris was so gracious, and Gamma Xi, through her organizing, had everything taken care of including the meeting place, coffee, a continental breakfast and a very pleasant atmosphere at a room next to the library. I've always remembered that special time and and how wonderful it was to be able to count on a Psi Ote, not to mention a Past National President." -- Ramona Simpson, PNP 2000

We know there are many memories like this of Doris and her commitment to Psi Iota Xi. Doris, dear sister, you will be truly missed!
Chapter Happenings

Theta Iota - Monticello, Indiana

A blast from the past!

Theta Iota Feb 1 Newsletter
The sisters of Theta Iota decided to host a "Blasts from the Past" themed event for their January meeting. So, as instructed, the crew wore their favorite historical hats. Pictured here are, in row 1:  Teresa Hemming, Teresa Sommers and Lolly Robinson; in row 2: Teresa Alexander, Shirley Trent, Karyl Brown, Terri Ray and Vicki Criswell

**Be sure to snap photos during your meetings and special events and send them electronically to your District Officers with the names of those photographed and a brief description of what's going on in the photo. (Who, What, Where, When and Why) Your DOs will forward to the appropriate individual so they can be included in upcoming issues of the newsletter.

Zeta Phi - LaGrange, Indiana

We all know that Summer is a time for fun and adventure. Unfortunately, if you are a student receiving speech services at school, it also means regression to old speaking habits. However, for those who are fortunate enough to be students in LaGrange, Indiana, or the neighboring areas, the sisters of Zeta Phi sponsor and run a Summer Speech Clinic to help students keep up their practice.

Zeta Phi has been running a summer speech clinic for more than 20 years. Jane Feller, President, spoke of how proud and lucky the chapter is to have in-house talent in Lori Trost, a speech pathologist who currently runs the screening and clinic, and in LuAnn Smith, a retired speech pathologist, and Lori's mom who ran the clinic before Lori.

Jane explained that the students are screened to identify their abilities and needs and then Lori sets up classes based on those abilities. The goal of the clinic is to minimize the amount of setback the students have during the summer when they are not receiving services at school.

What a wonderful way to enrich the lives of those around the LaGrange area.

Highlight Your Chapter

What do you and your sisters do for your local community? What special events do you have scheduled in the upcoming months? Did your group just celebrate a significant milestone? Is one of your sisters being recognized by the local community for something?

Task someone to take photos and right after the event send us all the details and include a photo or two of your sisters doing what your chapter does best. Please also identify whomever is in the photo, including their job title if they happen to be receiving a check or hold a leadership position. Describe what's happening in the photo and tell us why it's significant for your chapter. Send to donna@aradise.com. Donna will compile everything she receives and get approval from National Council to include in an upcoming newsletter.
