NEWS from the CATHEDRAL
On Martin Luther King Day, The Dean and members of the cathedral community joined a parade of more than 1,000 people in Hempstead celebrating Rev. King's work for racial and economic justice and his prophetic call for peace among the nations of the world.

Following the parade, Dean Sniffen led a workshop in the Cathedral undercroft about the New York State Raise-the-Age campaign.

New York State continues to be the only state other than North Carolina that prosecutes ALL youth as adults when they turn 16 years of age.

The Dean highlighted that New York State has failed to recognize what research and science have confirmed - adolescents are children, and prosecuting and placing them in the adult criminal justice system doesn't work for them and doesn't work for public safety.

Youth and adults from the cathedral and visiting churches had a lively discussion and began to craft language to legislators focused on why a fair criminal justice system is important to people of faith.
