NEWS from the CATHEDRAL
You are invited to join The Dean and staff of the Cathedral for the 23rd Annual MLK day march in Hempstead. The march begins at 9am in Kennedy Memorial Park. Please click here to view flyer:

Following the parade and a brief ceremony at the Miracle Christian Center, Dean Sniffen will lead a workshop in the Cathedral undercroft addressing how people of faith can actively work for social and institutional injustice. The focus of the workshop will be the New York State Raise-the-Age campaign.

New York continues to be the only state other than North Carolina that prosecutes ALL youth as adults when they turn 16 years of age.
New York has failed to recognize what research and science have confirmed - adolescents are children, and prosecuting and placing them in the adult criminal justice system doesn't work for them and doesn't work for public safety.

More information regarding the campaign is available here: http://raisetheageny.com/get-the-facts
Youth and adults who participate in the workshop will develop strategies for expressing to legislators why people of faith call for urgent reform of the criminal justice system to treat youth fairly.

Almighty God, by the hand of Moses your servant you led your people out of slavery, and made them free at last; Grant that your Church, following the example of your prophet Martin Luther King, Jr., may resist oppression in the name of your love, and may secure for all your children the blessed liberty of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
