I Am The Cathedral Christmas Eve 1987, my husband and I came to the 11:00 PM service, having moved to Long Island from my home state of Massachusetts. The moment I stepped through the door, I knew that I had found the place in which I would worship for as long as we stayed on Long Island. I sensed the strong presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling within this majestic edifice. The Spirit in Cathedral exists separate from its people, and is a calming presence that whispers, "Peace, all is well..." no matter what is happening in my life, the Church, or the world. It is my safe harbor.

Over the years my love for the Cathedral has grown stronger as my spiritual life deepens and strengthens, motivating me to learn more about Episcopal/Anglican theology. From birth to now, I have deeply appreciated the religion which has played a major role in shaping my value system and that of my Anglican ancestors. I recognize the uniqueness of the Cathedral with its worship services providing consistently thought provoking sermons, opportunities to fellowship with other congregants to form life-long friendships, outstanding music and Christian Formation programs, and its theological school. We raised our son, a miracle baby wrought through faith in God, from baptism through nursery, Sunday school, First Communion, chorister, Journey to Adulthood and confirmation in the Cathedral.

Twenty-eight years later, I still am very grateful to God for guiding me to its doors. What should I do to show God appreciation for the blessings He has so generously bestowed upon me? I do as scripture bids me to do. I strive to be a good steward by giving of my time, my talent and my treasure, recognizing that all things come from God, and that without Him I am nothing, and will have nothing. Daily, I ask Him to show me His will for me, and to lead, guide, direct and protect me along my Christian journey both in the church and in the world. I pray that, as I show up in the Cathedral, let me also show up in the world by being an active participant in my community in service to His people and in answer to His call.

Therefore, as an expression of my gratitude and love for God and His church, I give freely of my time, talent, and treasure by serving in lay ministries of the Cathedral and Diocese, and by pledging financial support in accordance with God's Word. First, I submit my pledge of financial support annually, and strive to fulfill the commitment as it is a vital part of being a good steward of God. I am a Lay Eucharistic Minister, Eucharistic Visitor, Lector/Intercessor, a Cathedral Warden, Co-Chairman of the St. Matthews Committee of the Altar Guild and Acolyte. I am a member of the Schola Cantorum, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Cathedral Council, Cathedral Executive Committee, Stewardship Committee, and a Board Member of the Diocesan corporations: Episcopal Ministries of Long Island- Episcopal Community Services. I also perform various tasks: scheduling Ushers for special and Diocesan services and events including but not limited to confirmations, ordinations, Christmas season, Lenten season, Holy Week and Easter; coordinate Cathedral breakfast events; participate in creating our awesome Palm Screen for Palm Sunday; and, help place flowers at Christmas and Easter around our beloved Cathedral. I am an Episcopalian/Anglican. I am the Cathedral.
