CLINICIAN SPOTLIGHT
Honoring an Emerging Leader in Healthcare
Those of us who work for MCN are fortunate to encounter many inspiring individuals in the course of our work across the country. It is always particularly exciting to encounter emerging leaders committed to working with vulnerable populations. One of these outstanding individuals is Stephanie Davenport who crossed paths with MCN at the 2010 National Summit of Clinicians for Healthcare Justice. Stephanie is in the process of applying to medical school and committed to a career working with the underserved. She currently is a lab assistant/phlebotomist in the diagnostic lab at Schneck Medical Center in Indiana. We are excited to announce that Stephanie was recognized as the Schneck Medical Center's 2012 employee of the year.

Stephanie was nominated by her co-workers who stated: "Stephanie is a customer service resource and leader for the entire organization. Her patients remember her for the compassionate care she gives, and they often ask for her by name."
We feel fortunate to know Stephanie and look forward to working along side her as she continues her career advancing healthcare for some of the most vulnerable.

Tools to Help Health Centers Recruit and Retain Quality Clinicians
Finding and keeping good clinicians rate high on the priority lists of most Migrant and Community Health Centers. Where the "business" of an organization is providing excellent patient care, quality clinicians are obviously crucial to the success of the health center. MCN has just updated the Health Center Recruitment and Retention Review Tool which is designed to support on-going recruitment and retention of qualified clinical staff at health centers.
The primary purpose of the Recruitment and Retention Review Tool is to assess health center readiness to recruit and retain high quality clinical staff and to identify areas requiring improvement.

Farmworker Clinical Care Resource for Occupational Health
The New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health recently launched a new website to connect healthcare providers and others with tools and resources to more effectively serve the needs of farmworker patients. The website provides clinicians with a primer on farmworker health conditions and occupational risks and connects users to clinical diagnostic tools, patient education materials and research among other resources. The website features many of MCN's EOH clinical tools and patient education materials, including our pesticide comic books. Visit the site here: http://www.farmworkercliniciansmanual.com

Effective Partnership in the Pacific Northwest Benefits Farmworkers
The Skagit Valley Herald recently highlighted a new partnership between Sea Mar Community Health Center, Skagit Valley Hospital and the Safe Harbor Free Clinic. Sea Mar has provided medical and dental services on site at a number of migrant camps during the summer for over 20 years. Now, thanks to the new partnership, the outreach team is able to provide urgent care on site. More information about this effort can be found here:

Janeth Perez was born in Monterrey, NL, Mexico, but has lived in Texas most of her life. Just before joining as a Health Network Associate, she graduated from the University of Texas with a B.A. in Psychology, and a B.S. in Radio-Television-Film. While in college, she volunteered with the 'modSquad' at Austin State Hospital and Austin Integral Care's ASPIRE program. These programs really helped her to understand the value and impact of social services. When Janeth is not at Health Network, she enjoys reading, watching movies and making short animations. Her big project outside of work right now is trying to create a Chicana e-zine with some fellow RTF grads. You can reach Janeth at jperez@migrantclinician.org.
