Housatonic Opens New
Manufacturing Center

Some 100 people crowded the Broad Street atrium in Lafayette Hall recently to participate in a ribbon cutting that marked the opening of the new Regional Advanced Manufacturing Center. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy headlined a list of speakers that included Housatonic Community College President Anita T. Gliniecki, State Rep. Andres Ayala and Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch. "Turning the corner on decades of economic decline means we have to prepare our students with the high-tech skills that Connecticut companies need to compete globally," Governor Malloy said. "We must ensure that our workforce has the strongest possible foundation - that is how Connecticut will regain its competitiveness, create good-paying jobs with good benefits, and strengthen our economy."

Art Professor's Work

Captures Area Attention

Art Professor Andy Pinto's paintings have been capturing area attention. His works were the subject of an exhibit at Bridgeport's Framemakers Picture Framing and Art throughout September. Earlier this month, three of the Monroe resident's works were on display at the Monroe Arts Council's annual membership show. Both exhibits featured paintings of deteriorating factory buildings and mills from around the area.

Upcoming

Mfg. Ctr Open House
Friday, October 26

Housatonic Community College will hold an open house for its new Regional Advanced Manufacturing Center Friday, October 26.  "The open house will give manufacturers, prospective students and the general public the opportunity to see the lab up close and talk with students who are enrolled in the center's Advanced Manufacturing Program," said HCC Academic Coordinator Bill Griffin, who is spearheading the development of the center and its programs. "It will provide a glimpse of the computer-driven equipment that students will be trained to operate." The open house will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the C-Wing Atrium in Lafayette Hall, which is adjacent to the center.
