From the Executive Director:

Dear Colleagues,

Health insurance costs have been rising at exponential rates over the past couple of decades - at even higher rates than tuition at independent schools. Typically the line item of a school budget for health insurance is one of the highest behind salaries. One of the primary services MISBO offers its member schools is the opportunity to participate in the purchasing consortium. Our member schools purchase from over 130 vendors who provide significant discounts to our schools.

Health insurance is not as simple as many of our vendor relationships. We currently serve 315 schools in over 10 states in the southeast United States. Insurance is regulated by state law in addition to federal law.

For this reason, MISBO has evaluated a large number of options to bring our member schools a program which will help reduce...

Health Care Reform Federal Rating Rule Changes: Preparing For Small Group Rate Shock

Date: August 7, 2013 at 2:00 PM ET
Presenter: David A. Shore - VP, Employee Benefits Practice Leader
Description: This webinar will discuss the ACA Federal Rating Rule changes: What does this mean?  How do you help a small group client decide if they should take advantage of an early renewal?  First, know that there will be winners and losers in this process.  Small(er) small groups may benefit from the pricing change.  Larg(er) small groups will not.  The problems compound for clients that were previously in a "good risk" industry e.g. technology companies or schools. Clients in higher risk industries - e.g. dynamite manufacturers will benefit.  This session is extremely important to our member schools.

Do NOT miss it!

New Vendor Profile - ISBC

MISBO is proud to announce our newest vendor - Independent School Benefits Consortium (ISBC). The ISBC is an employee benefit insurance program that offers a variety of products and plans at competitive pricing to MISBO members through a pooled purchasing arrangement.

The ISBC was founded in 2003 to serve independent schools of all sizes in the areas of Medical & Rx, Dental, Employee Communications & Education, Health Management Services and Wellness Programs. Built on the foundation of enhanced choice, price and service for independent schools, the program is designed to improve carrier leverage, rate stability, benefits options, customer service and strategic planning for MISBO members.

The MISBO/ISBC Health Insurance Program is something each and every one of our member schools should investigate.

For more information, please visit www.misbo.com/isbc and contact Kurt Meinberg, Team Leader ISBC, Oswald Companies at 216.658.5034 or at kmeinberg@oswaldcompanies.com.

Benchmarking Survey

For a second year, and in association with Interactive Data Partners (IDP), MISBO and SAIS will join forces to deploy an annual benchmarking survey to member schools. Participating schools have access to the full array of data available and have the ability to filter on select criteria (enrollment, population density, grade levels, state, etc.) and create benchmarking groups with as few as six schools.

For our members who chose not to participate last year, we strongly encourage you to participate this year.  The data has been invaluable to last year's participants.

On Monday, August 19th, Interactive Data Partners (IDP) will be sending the primary MISBO contact login credentials for all MISBO and SAIS member schools. If you do not receive this email, please contact support@idp-dashboards.com and they can resend it.

Important Dates to Remember:
  • Survey Opens 8/19
  • Survey Closes 9/20
  • Data Available 10/25

New Member Benefit

MISBO wants to let you know that as our Professional Development program continues to grow, we will be archiving presentations from our past conferences and events to one web page as a new member benefit.  We know it will be a tremendous resource of valuable information to those who were unable to attend the conferences in person.

We have just added the presentations from our FISBO/MISBO Conference in early May.  The materials can be found by clicking here and logging in to our member portal.

We will notify you when we add new events to this page.

Membership Renewal

Membership renewal invoices were mailed in May.  If you have not already remitted your 2013-2014 membership dues, please do so at your earliest convenience.

Please note the invoices were based on the student count we have on record for your school.  If your numbers are different for the 2013-2014 school year, please adjust your invoice accordingly and submit the appropriate payment.
