Dear Colleagues,
I know many of you are very busy with end of school year activities leading up to graduation ceremonies, year-end meetings, preparing for summer programs, etc. MISBO continues to be very busy as well!
MISBO's new online ordering system for all Electronic Resources went live last week. This is a dramatic improvement over the mostly manual system that had been used in prior years. Please make certain that anyone in your school that orders Electronic Resources has access to this system. Please contact Dianne Sagaas, Director, Professional Development & Member Services at diannesagaas@misbo.com if you need more information or assistance. And remember the first volume fee deadline is June 2nd. You can read more about this new system below.
We also just completed our successful partnership with our Florida colleagues to present the 27th Annual FISBO/MISBO Business Officer Conference in Jacksonville, FL hosted by The Bolles School (thank you Nancy Greene).
At our board meeting recently, the MISBO nominating committee presented a slate of candidates to the board for approval and this information was shared with the membership earlier this week. Please click here for that full message. Please note, in that email we incorrectly stated new Board Member Robert Moore's title. Mr. Moore is the Assistant Director of Facilities at Collegiate School.
I also wish to publicly recognize the extraordinary contribution and dedication by Wendy Barnhart - Director of Business and Finance, The Westminster Schools. Wendy will be serving one more year on the board as Past Chair. Her tenure as MISBO Board Chair has been instrumental in leading MISBO through a strategic planning process, change in leadership and so much more.
I could go on and on, but this is long enough. As with your schools, strong and appropriate board leadership is the building block for a successful association. MISBO is very fortunate to have this critical element in place to build into the future.

Electronic Resources Ordering System
Our NEW Electronic Resources ordering system is here! Earlier this week MISBO hosted a webinar to introduce our new ordering system for Electronic Resources. If you were unable to attend, you can view the recorded webinar from our Webinar Archives page. If you are a librarian, media specialist or business officer at your school, and have not received an email with a temporary password please click here. The system will email you a temporary password. If you get an error, please register here. Please understand this new system is for Electronic Resources only. Our vendor contracts can still be found here, and if logged into our member portal, you will find appropriate instructions for each vendor on how to identify yourself as a MISBO member to receive member pricing. Please note the following volume fee deadlines for Electronic Resources: - June 2nd - 2%
- August 31st - 5%
- December 31st - 7%

Date: May 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM ET Presenter: Gerard P. Panaro, Esq., Howe & Hutton, Ltd. Description: This webinar will focus on three key legal questions/considerations for schools which use volunteers: Is the person a true "volunteer" or is s/he really an employee (and, what difference does it make)? What legal obligations does the school have to a volunteer: for example, if the volunteer is hurt, will the school be liable? And what liability might a school have to a third party who may be injured by a volunteer (for example, a passenger in a car being driven by a volunteer)? Ideally, this webinar will help attendees to decide when, and under what circumstances, it may be wise or unwise to accept the services of a volunteer.

Digital Public Library
The Digital Public Library of America was recently launched. The vision of a national digital library has been circulating among librarians, scholars, educators, and private industry representatives since the early 1990's. This invaluable resource provides books, images, historic records and audiovisual materials to anyone with Internet access.

Updated FMLA Poster
On February 5, the Department of Labor issued a mandatory change to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) posting.
The deadline to display the updated posting was March 8, 2013.
