Old Friends

A friend loves at all times (Proverbs 17:17).
There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother (or sister) (Proverbs 18:24).

Yesterday, Jan and I visited an old friend - Stan Lawrence.  He is the pastor who was formative in Jan's early teen years in a way that has impacted her life forever.  Stan is the minister who married us (almost 44 years ago).  We've shared a love of books, good stories, and lots of laughter.

Kenny Rogers sang a neat song a few years back:  "You Can't Make Old Friends."  Here are a few of the lyrics:

What will I do when you are gone?
Who's gonna tell me the truth?
Who's gonna finish the stories I start
            The way you always do?

When Saint Peter opens the gate
            And you come walking in
I'll be there just waiting for you
Cause you can't make old friends

As I've said numerous times before, while we are no longer your pastors, your ongoing friendship is a priceless treasure to us.

Love and prayers, Dan and Jan
