Friends,

The Holy season of Lent begins one week from tomorrow! That makes me all the more grateful for the sermon series we've been doing at Wednesday's 6:35 service in the chapel on the spiritual discipline of fasting. Tomorrow we conclude with "Finding Freedom Through Discipline" from Luke 4:1-21. Hope to see you there!

I am also excited to let you know that registration is now open for The Marriage Course that my wife Lenora and I will be leading on Thursdays from March 31- May 19, from 6 to 8:30 pm. The 8-week course requires a pre-paid registration of $110, which covers the course materials and the dinner deliciousness prepared by our kitchen staff. Limited spots for childcare are available, so register now! Each session is a "date night format," beginning with the opportunity to share a meal and quiet conversation with your partner in a romantic setting. Later, you watch a DVD lesson and are then given more time for discussion. Don't worry - during the discussion time, background music is playing and your tables are spread far enough apart to ensure your privacy. Lenora and I participated in this course two years ago and it strengthened our marriage. Speaking of our marriage, today is our 14th wedding anniversary - Happy anniversary, Lenora! I love you!

Have a great week everyone. Grace and peace, Aaron
Missions
Ted Grueser
  • This week's Mission Box is for Trey and Larissa Genser, missionaries serving in Mozambique with Overland Missions.  Overland Missions exists to take the Gospel of Christ to the most remote and forgotten places on earth. We identify these regions and begin the process to spread the good news of Christ until the Gospel has reached its full effect. This means not just sending a team of missionaries over to preach the Word, but deploying a measurable, accountable and effective strategy to empower the local believers to carry on the mission of spreading the Gospel among them in a sustainable way.
  • Mark Your Calendars.  The Spring Yard Sale will be Saturday, April 2
  • A community needs your help! April 24-30, Trinity will be taking a team back to El Salvador to drill a well with Living Water.  If you are interested in being a part of this great opportunity please contact Ted. There are limited spots available so act fast.  There are scholarships available so don't let money stop you from taking advantage of God using you in the world.

  • How can churches and other faith-based organizations serve to meet needs of persons, neighborhoods, and communities in ways that are self-sustaining and transformational?  That was a focus of the Beyond These Walls conference I attended in Atlanta last week.  And while there are no easy answers, there are churches and organizations (like St. Luke's UMC, The Wesley Mission Center  & Significant Matters) that are providing insight through their work.  Building on existing strengths of neighborhoods and incorporating programs that empower (e.g. educational, employment) are examples of common themes.  At Faith Mission, we'll continue to draw from other organizations as we learn how best to serve with our NE 15th Street corridor neighbors.
