Worship: Sundays @ 8:15 am, 9:40 am, 11:00 am | Wednesdays @ 6:35 pm
Dear Trinity Family,
share with you seven things:

1.  If possible, plan to attend our "Leaving a Legacy; Faithful Expressions" seminar, February 3 at 7:00 in room 232.  This is sponsored by our Trinity Foundation, and led by the Florida United Methodist Foundation, and it is important for Trinity and for you and your family.

2.  Words fail me (and I imagine all of us!) to express adequately my appreciation, admiration and affection for Rosemary Davis as she retires from being the superlative parish visitor for Trinity.  Rosemary's hospital visits were so welcomed and appreciated by everyone.  While Trinity members were her primary focus, requests came in from all over the state (and country) for visits, and Rosemary was there - there with grace, prayer and heartfelt concern.  As Rosemary shared with our staff:  "It makes it easier to leave knowing that Lenora Rousseau will be taking my place."  In typical Rosemary fashion, she has spent the past three months showing Lenora the ropes.  We will celebrate Rosemary's remarkable ministry this Sunday with a reception between the worship services, where you can share your appreciation in person.

3.  Have you turned in your Lenten Devotional to Jim Cook yet?  We need yours and about 25 others by Friday.  Send it to Jim.

4.  Have you picked up (or ordered) your name tag yet?  They are so helpful to all of us know one another as we become more and more family.  You can do this each Sunday at the Welcome Center - where you can also volunteer to help make coffee.  Thanks.

5.  This Sunday, January 31 is a BIG Sunday; in the morning, I will be joined for the sermon by Myra Monroe and Megan Poole as we celebrate Accessibility Sunday.  Our sermon will be from our text of Joshua 1:9, and focus on "Wherever We Go."  The Mission Box will also be for this important ministry.  And Sunday night we will have the famous "Talent/No Talent Show & Pie Auction" at 6:00pm.  We still need some acts and some pies.  Contact Julie to be in the show, and Kim to donate a pie, and plan to come out for a great evening.

6. Our Stephen Ministry is so awesome:  one person helping another person one hour a week to get through a rough patch in life.  We have several trained and ready Stephen Ministers - both men and women - who are ready to help.  If you or someone you know, are going through one of those periods (which all of us do), then email Rev. Lenora Rousseau and she will guide you to the next steps.

7.  The new Art Show is up; provided by the Gainesville Fine Arts Group; always a treat.  A reception for the artists and guests will be at noon - second floor of the Ed. Bldg.

Love and prayers, Dan

A Message from Rev. Aaron
Email | Blog | Twitter

Friends,
Yesterday, I spent the day with some of my colleagues from the North Central District at one of our sister churches, New Covenant UMC in The Villages. We were together for our regular monthly meeting but also had the privilege of learning from theologian, pastor, and author Leonard Sweet. It was an inspiring time, to be sure, but it was made even more special by being able to congratulate, face-to-face, my friends who were successful in their interviews with the Board of Ordained Ministry last week. As I mentioned during worship on Sunday, our District had a strong showing - my wife, Lenora, included. Thank you for all your encouragement, support, and congratulatory words. It is such a blessing for us to be in ministry together and last week marked an important step on our journey.

This Wednesday at the 6:35 service in Trinity Chapel I will continue our series on Fasting (can you believe Ash Wednesday is only two weeks away?) with "Opening the Door to God's Blessings" from Isaiah 58:1-14. Hope to see you there!

One more thing many of you have been inquiring about - we are working on putting the final details together for The Marriage Course that Lenora and I will be leading on Thursday evenings, beginning March 31st and concluding May 19th. Look for links to online registration beginning next week!

Grace and peace,
Aaron

  • This weeks Mission Box is for the Friendship Accessibility Ministry, a group that helps raise awareness of disability issues, helping the congregation to understand disabilities and therefore create an accepting, warm, and welcoming atmosphere for persons with disabilities. They work closely with all ministries here at Trinity to integrate people with disabilities and their families into the church. This group also ensures that Trinity's facilities and programs are always accessible to all persons with disabilities.
  • Mommy Reads is collecting the following items (new or used) for Lowell Correctional Institution on an ongoing basis: women's clothing (pants/tops/jackets), card games, puzzles, coloring books/crayons/colored pencils, ANY sport balls/pumps, board games, aerobic/workout videos/CDs, CD players, games/books for the kids visiting. Items can be left at the church desk. Contact Beth Haines with questions.
  • Trinity is sending a youth and adult medical mission team to Matagalpa, Nicaragua in March. This team will set up clinics in rural villages and will serve over 1,000 people. The following is a list of needed items that can be donated (please, no prescription medicines). Collection boxes will be available in front of the sanctuary, at the front desk in the Education Building, and at the Youth Building. Please turn in donations by February 2nd. • Volunteer Opportunities! Do you have 30 minutes a week to be an "encourager" for a Rawlings student?  The new mentoring program for 4th and 5th graders is going well with volunteers serving during the school lunch period.  This program is a partnership with Rawlings, Greenhouse Church, Ermon Owens, and Faith Mission to build additional support and encouragement.  We have six children recommended for this program who do not have mentors.  Could you help one lunch period each week?
  • Ready to make a positive impact on a child's life by volunteering with an after school program?  Kids Count welcomes teen and adult volunteers for the K-3rd grade after school program.  Volunteers are an integral part of Kids Count - helping with homework, reading with the children, supporting the staff with daily activities - and you can choose any hour of time to serve between 3pm and 5:30pm Monday - Thursday and 1pm to 4pm on Fridays.  Ready, set, go volunteer-once-a-week?
  • Like to plan events and parties?  Faith Mission is hosting monthly gatherings of neighborhood families that includes a meal and a fun event for both parents and children.  Several families help plan each month's event with the support of Faith Mission and Kids Count staff, and it would be very helpful if we had at least two volunteers who could help with preparations.  Are you that party volunteer?

Caring & Support
Lenora Rousseau

I am so excited about embracing my expanded role here at Trinity! If you or anyone you know is need of care or support, please do not hesitate to contact me (416-3033). If it's not something that I can help you with directly, I will make sure you are connected with the appropriate ministry to receive the care and support you are seeking.

  • There are times when each of us needs the care of another person, a Christian friend, a Stephen Minister!  These needs could be a loved one who is hospitalized, terminally ill or in a job crisis.  It could be someone grieving a death or serious loss.  Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry: those receiving care can be sure that their identity and what goes on in the caring relationship will remain private.  If you or someone you know would benefit from a Stephen Minister, please call Lynn Cunningham at 372-1027 or Fred Korzec at 386-462-6198.
  • Caregiver Support Group: Meets every Monday from 7 -8:30pm in 225. Contact Frank Wallace.
  • Thursday Weekly Prayer Group: "Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7)  All are welcome to join or leave a Prayer Request at Trinity Chapel.  We love praying for others!  Meets Thursdays at 7pm (except 3rd Thursday at Faith Mission, 6pm).  For more information, contact Jay Schnedl.

  • If you would like to join Trinity, the way to do it is through Coffee with the Pastors. It is a casual gathering in which you'll learn more about the United Methodist Church, who we are at Trinity, and what is expected of members.  The next Coffee with the Pastors is January 31, 9:40am in 222. Please register online, or email Carmen.
  • Thanks to everyone who wrote an Advent devotional--what a blessing you provided.  Easter is early this year and that means we have a shorter turnaround period for writing Lenten devotionals. Our deadline will be January 29th.  We need 47 devotionals for the time between Ash Wednesday and Easter.  This year's theme will be, "How I See Jesus".  Please send your devotional to Jim Cook, include your writing, a scripture verse, a closing prayer thought and a title if you wish (250 words).
