Have You Ever Needed A Place to Hide?

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings (Psalm 17:8).

A few years ago, several of us visited Turkey with some friends; one of the places we went was Cappadocia, which is where Paul planted some churches and became a thriving center of Christianity, home of the famous "Cappadocian Fathers" of the Church in the 4th Century (Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, Gregory of Nazianzus).  The rock in this area is porous which allowed the Christians to create underground caves, indeed a honeycomb of caves 7 levels underground - they could and did live down there for months while hostile peoples looted the land above them on their way to or from Constantinople.  We visited these caves; also took a hot air balloon ride over them(!).  Indeed,
God hid them "under the shadow of God's wings.  I have needed that protection before, too - I forget the danger, but the need to hide was real.  Not as real as our brothers and sisters in Syria and other countries of the world where safety is a moment by moment concern. Join me, will you, in praying for these who are facing dangers every day.

We all need God's protective wings covering us; we pray for that for our children, for our loved ones, and also for those whom we do not know, just as David prayed in this Psalm.

God's blessings and protection be upon you!  Amen.

Love and prayers, Dan
