The Glass of Water

This past Sunday I used the illustration I saw on Facebook - it's of someone holding a half filled glass of water.  And the question was NOT:  Is it half full or half empty, as one might expect, but rather:  How much does it weigh?  And then, while continuing to hold it, I said that the weight isn't really the key question either.  The key question is "How long will I hold it?"

If I hold it just one minute, there's no problem.
If I hold it 30 minutes, my arm will feel some pain.
If I try to hold it for 5 hours, my arm will become numb.

The glass of water is like a lot of the things we hold - stress, concern about a loved one, fear, worry about the future even though we know most of those things don't happen.  If we hold any of these for just a minute - no big deal, but if we hold them for hours or days or months, our spirits, our emotions go numb, and then we can't function very well.

What to do?  Set the glass down!  Set it into the hands of God.

What are you holding?  How long have you been holding it?  What affect is this having on you?

Picture the hands of God or of Jesus, right in front of you, right now, and hear these words:  "Here, set it down; set it down, right here in my big, strong hands.  I'll take care of it for you now."

Love and prayers, Dan
