Worship: Sundays @ 8:15 am, 9:40 am, 11:00 am | Wednesdays @ 6:35 pm
Dear Friends,

The Welcome Center is nearing completion, and it looks amazing! Here are a few things we can all do to prepare for the next Sundays, especially the big "Start Back Sunday," August 23:
  1. Wear your name tag.
  2. If you don't have a name tag, but would like to purchase one for $2.00, email us, and our name tag machine will print one out for you - please give your name as you want it to be printed on your name tag.  You can pick it up at the coffee station, and place your $2.00 in the basket there (we trust you!).
  3. If you haven't volunteered to be one of our "Welcome Greeters" but would like to be, email Carmen - same is true for being a Golf Cart Driver and Coffee Maker.
  4. If you have volunteered to be one of these three, be sure to attend the "Orientation" luncheon this Sunday at 12:15 in Worship B.  Our purpose is to go over specifics, set schedules for when you will be "on" etc.  If you haven't let Carmen know that you're coming to this luncheon, please let her know today!
On a different note, there aren't many times when things are quiet at Trinity, but this week is one of them - except that it's Youth Week (!) and also Sonlight Summer Boot Camp Tues/Wed (!), and so we are using this week to install new carpet in the main hallway of the Children's Wing of the Education Building.  After 16 years of use, it's time!  You'll never guess how they moved the full aquarium out and back for the install - amazing!

The team from Trinity who are in Malawi, Africa just got to visit some of the Children 300 of you have been sponsoring there!  Janet Holly is beside herself with joy!  Can't wait to hear all about their trip, as they will tell us about the life saving, life enhancing work your sponsorships through World Vision have done.

We continue to keep you posted on our Trinity Finances. July was a low month, as is generally the case for Florida churches, but, the good news is that because of your faithful giving from January - June we are still $78,000 ahead for the year.  The Trustees will need to do some significant expenditures, but will watch things carefully.  Thanks again for your faithful giving.

Finally, if you weren't in church this past Sunday to experience the remarkable life story that Steve and Trudy Bingham shared, please treat yourself by watching that service online. It was powerful, encouraging, inspiring, and perspective-giving.

This Sunday I'll be preaching from Mark 4:1 - 9:  "Welcoming Is A Lot Like Farming."  I hope to see you there!

Love and prayers,

A Message from Rev. Aaron
Email | Blog | Twitter

I am still on mission to Malawi, Africa, but will be returning this coming Saturday night. Two things:

1. My beautiful wife, Lenora, will be preaching at the 6:35 this week. I'm sure you won't want to miss it!
2. This week's "Summer of Shorts" video is titled "We Are His." For Christians, the journey of life is not so much about finding ourselves, but losing ourselves. We are defined not by who we are, but whose we are. This inspirational illustration calls believers to be a sent people, confident in the knowledge that we are His. Watch the video here. I'll see you next week!

Grace and peace be with you,

  • This weeks' mission box is Wycliffe Bible Translators.  Currently there are around 1,900 languages still waiting for a Bible translation to begin.  That's why Wycliffe is committed to seeing the Bible translated for every language that needs it.  Wycliffe fundamentally believes that as churches join in this mission, together we can reach every language in our lifetime. Your gifts will impact many different projects and language groups all over the world and move Bible-less people closer to having God's Word in their own language.
  • Enjoy great food and company while helping Family Promise at the same time! Faith Mission
Faith Mission, located at 3701 NE 15th Street, is a church and neighborhood collaboration.  An important part of our work is learning from others who have great experience in community collaboration.  An example is Focused Community Solutions (FCS), an organization in Atlanta with 40 years of experience and in July I attended their workshop.  They use the following Oath of Compassionate Service to help guide how it works and the way it serves -
  • I will never do for others what they can do for themselves.
  • I will limit one-way giving to crises and seek always to find ways for legitimate exchange.
  • I will take the time to listen and learn so that my actions will strengthen rather than weaken those I serve (with).
  • I will put the interests of the poor above my own (and my organization's) self-interest even when it means setting aside my own agenda.
  • I will seek ways to empower by hiring, lending, and investing and offer gifts sparingly as incentives to reinforce achievements.
  • Above all, to the best of my ability, I will do no harm.
What do you think of this Oath?  Feel free to email me your thoughts.

This week at Faith Mission -
  • The Leadership Team will be meeting Tuesday evening to prioritize work for the fall.
  • We will be getting ready to support Rawlings Elementary's pre-planning period (next week) with a meal for teachers and staff, swag bag items for teachers for their trip to Tallahassee to visit a fine arts magnet school, and books for children at the parent visitation time.
  • We will participate in the second ad hoc community building meeting that includes leaders from SWAG, River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding, City of Gainesville, and area churches.  Rev. Dan helped initiate this community building group.
  • Facility improvements continue.  A new stage is being built and many thanks to the Dennard family (Johnnie, Gail, & Taylor!) for their construction work this weekend.  We're installing a whiteboard/screen and projection system to improve our meeting hosting capacity.  Thanks to Jeff Tennant, Jack Brown, and Bill Buhi for getting the whiteboard/screen mounted.
  • Many thanks to those who've responded to volunteer in various ways over the past several weeks.  More opportunities will be posted soon!

  • The healing Order of St. Luke sends a heartfelt thank you to Steve and Trudy Bingham for their moving testimony of healing (over the past 40 years), and doing it for all three church services at Trinity.  It was inspiring to all of us.
