Worship: Sundays @ 8:15 am, 9:40 am, 11:00 am | Wednesdays @ 6:35 pm | Fridays @ 7:00 pm
Dear friends,

Sonlight is back!  And they had an AMAZING tour.  What an amazing group of youth, adult support and the awesome director, Erin Cushing!

This Sunday we begin a summer sermon series called "Myths and Half Truths," that we often hear in Church and in religious language.  Some are harmless; others cause a great deal of pain.  This Sunday I'll be preaching on the often heard and used phrase:  "There but for the Grace of God go I."  I've said it in the past, but no longer.  I'll tell you why I don't, and why I hope you don't either.

I'll be wearing my name tag Sunday; I hope you will too!  The completion of the Welcome Center is now set for mid-August, so you have lots of time to volunteer to help with greeting and welcoming!  And, have you ordered your engraved brick yet?  You have until June 30.

Want to know more about the Trinity Travelers Cruise to Chile, Argentina and Uruguay?  The Director of Educational Opportunities Travel, James Ridgeway, will be here on Tuesday, June 30 at 7:00 pm to meet with the group of folks going with us in January 16-30, and anyone who wants to find out more about the trip.

Remember, on July 5 (and only that one Sunday) we will have one Worship Service - at 9:40.  Come, meet your fellow Trinity members you don't usually see!

Blessings, Dan

A Word from Rev. Aaron
Friends, I type this having just returned from meeting Sonlight in Nashville on Friday and finishing out the tour with them. I was fortunate enough to see their final concert in North Carolina on Saturday and then worship with them in the same church on Sunday morning. And let me tell you...I have never been prouder of Sonlight than I was this weekend! They ministered to me and everyone else in attendance in a very powerful and meaningful way. They really did an amazing job. Next time you see Erin Cushing, please thank her for her leadership and congratulate her on a job very well done.

Three more things:
1. It's been a very busy couple weeks, so, starting today I will be spending some personal time with my family and enjoying a brief summer vacation. Please pray for our reconnection, rest, and renewal!
2. You won't want to miss the 6:35 service this week. My dear friend and YOOTS very own Julie Mishoe will be preaching!
3. The next five videos in our series "Summer of Shorts" will help illustrate the five key components in our covenant of membership at Trinity United Methodist Church - prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. First up is "prayer." What does it mean to pray to a God that we cannot see? What really is prayer?
Missions
  • This week's Mission Box is for our Youth Summer Mission Trips: Appalachia Service Project & SIFAT.  Over 80 of our youth and volunteers will head out of state to be the hands and feet of Jesus.  Please support these opportunities for our youth to put their faith into action.

  • Are you still looking for something to do this year that will allow you to make a difference in someone's life or even better a whole community? The Living Water Mission Trip to Guatemala (September 19-26), still has spots available for YOU.  The work is digging a water well and teaching water hygiene to the community but the joy is the fellowship with the team and the community and serving in a beautiful country. The trip cost is $2,000 and includes airfare, meals and accommodations. The trip is limited to 12 people, ages 14 and older. If you are interested in participating, or more information about trip specifics, please email Ted.

  • Please remember in your prayers this week the mission team from Trinity as they are heading to Highgate, Jamaica this Saturday.  The mission team will be building the house that was funded by the children of VBS and our congregation.  It's so amazing to see how Trinity continues to impact so many around the world and even as close as our neighbors here in Gainesville.

  • We are excited to be the first host church for the reopening of Family Promise of Gainesville on July 19-25. Many volunteers will be needed to make Trinity a welcoming place for homeless children and their families. Please consider helping in some way. We need evening, overnight, and Saturday hosts; van drivers to transport families each day; groups or individuals to provide meals;  help setting up rooms on the first Sunday and taking down on the last; and volunteers who can wash sheets and towels. For more information or to volunteer contact Marilyn Clugston or visit our Family Promise table at church on Sunday.

Faith Mission

Much of the current work of Faith Mission, located at 3701 NE 15th Street, is about (a) relationship building, (b) supporting programs or initiatives for the neighborhood, and (c) learning from others.  And on the latter - Faith Mission's moving-up-the-learning curve includes everything from listening to area residents to benefiting from the experience of others locally and around the country.  We had two really good opportunities to learn this past week - a lunch we hosted with residents of the Village Green & Forest apartment complex to introduce Faith Mission and hear their thoughts on both the strengths and the needs of the neighborhood, and a roundtable discussion with people from SWAG, Greenhouse Church, and the Department of Juvenile Justice who shared their experiences of building lasting relationships with residents.  Both gatherings were very positive and helpful.

This week at Faith Mission:
  • We're continuing neighborhood outreach in nearby apartment complexes and a subdivision to introduce Faith Mission and to gather input using our survey.
  • Meetings to learn about positive community programs will continue including with the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding.
  • Facility improvements involving additional roof work and a new stage are in motion thanks to Johnnie Dennard, a Faith Mission Leadership Team member.  Alan Parker of Parker Door Services is doing a great job replacing the old doors and many thanks to Tom Fillmer for helping make this happen.
  • We're very appreciative of the new Hogtown FC soccer club agreeing to bring soccer for children to our neighborhood in August.  One of the themes we are hearing from residents is a need for more nearby opportunities and activities for children, and this will be a super program for the kids.

Adult Ministry
  • Invitation To Romans - 8 sessions, Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 PM, June 24th - August 12th. Exploring how people have interpreted Romans through the ages is a good lens to view the history of Christianity itself.  Compare what Paul writes in Romans to what theologians like Augustine, Luther, and Calvin say in trying to understand Paul in their time.  The hope of this course is that participants have a more informed commitment to Paul's radical vision of God's relationship to both Christians and Jews and to their relationship to each other.  This study is meaty and extremely enjoyable for those students with some familiarity of Romans and with a strong biblical foundation to rely on.  Sign up at worship or click here. Books are available at the bookstore for $15.
  • Dan and Jan will be leading a trip along the coast of Chile, around Cape Horn, up the coast of Argentina and Uruguay from January 16 - 30, 2016, with special guest lecturer, our own Dr. Bob Westin.  It would be grand to have many of you from Trinity join us.  You can access the itinerary here. If you are interested in the trip email Tammy.
  • Trinity Ladies:  If you are signed up for the Proverbs 31 online Bible study - here are some suggestions to share with you to help make this a great experience.
    • You will notice a lot of emails each week so to stay organized, create a folder or label in your email to store all Proverbs 31 emails.  If you fall behind you will be able to quickly go back to the folder to find each one.  Then flag the email when you have read it.
    • Keep a journal along with your daily and weekly reading.
    • Join the MyTrinity group "Women's Online Bible Studies" for our own discussion.
    • If you have questions at anytime during the study - please don't hesitate to contact Kim Lewerenz.
