Blameless

May God strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones."  (I Thess 3: 13)

God's strength is real - and strong, and mighty, working within us, as we ask, as we willingly respond - strengthening our inner being, growing us in grace, shaping us more and more fully into the image of Christ - theologians call this "sanctification."  Paul here is referring to it as God's inner working to make us "blameless and holy."

Stephen Covey began his best seller "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" with this:  "Begin with the end in mind."  Paul states the end we should all have in mind:  that final day when we meet our Maker; how do we want that to be; how do we want to be?  Blameless and holy - oh, not in our own strength, but only in God's; not in our own merits, but only through His forgiveness, renewing and restoring.

As Martin Luther often prayed:  "Lord, help me to be mindful of two days:  today and "that day" and may I live today for that day.  Amen.
