Worship: Sundays @ 8:15 am, 9:40 am, 11:00 am | Wednesdays @ 6:35 pm | Fridays @ 7:00 pm
Dear Friends,

Next to me on our flight to Virginia was a family from Tibet; I wondered if they knew people from neighboring Nepal where the Earthquake had just hit.  A family in our church were once missionaries in Nepal, lived in Katmandu; I'm eager to talk with them as I'm sure they have dear friends in the midst of that devastation from the earthquake.  Oh my!  Our Missions Director, Ted, has concurred that we make NEXT Sunday's (May 10) Mission Box for Relief Aid for the Earthquake victims; UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is already there, and we will be helping through them.  (THIS Sunday's Mission Box will stay as planned for Vacation Bible School).

Our prayers go out for those in Nepal, as they also go out for the people of Baltimore; the ripples of hurt, misunderstanding and violence are so tragic at all levels.  Praying for all who "stand in the gap" and bring aid and help and healing.

Closer to home, in our Trinity family, one of our beloved, long time members, Mrs. Alyce Boyd, passed into life eternal yesterday.  Her next birthday would have been her 98th!  Alyce was a champion of Trinity, especially during the early capital campaigns to purchase our 67 acres, then to build the first buildings, and, oh my goodness, for that opening banquet in the worship center as we transitioned from 8th avenue to 53rd.  She moved always with style and grace, and imparted that spirit of "can do" in the DNA of Trinity.  I wish all of you could have known Alyce, and all the early pilgrims who helped make possible the wonders we enjoy today.  As always, it's important we never forget from whence we came.  Alyce's service celebrating her life will be early next week.

The three stories above remind us just how precious life is; don't take it for granted, extend love and kindness and understanding to those around you, and aid to those far away who are in need.

Love and prayers, Dan

Thanks for a wonderful Sunday!  This week at the 6:35 service in the chapel on Wednesday evening we'll continue our look at The Prodigal God, and we'll be talking about the Elder Brother. Coffee Talk for young adults meets in the chapel right after the 6:35! Finally, the next young adult gathering for the Friendship Disability Group will be May 16 from 2 to 5 pm in the youth building - we will be watching the movie 'Selma.' All are welcome. Blessings!

A Word from Rev. Aaron
This Wednesday during our study of the Five Marks of a Methodist we will be discussing how a "Methodist prays constantly." And, given all that is happening around the world, from Baltimore to Nepal, this couldn't be more timely. You need not have been at the other sessions to be a part of our conversation so come join us! 6:30pm in room 232.

There is still a lot of excitement around RightNow Media...we are fast approaching 600 subscriptions! If you received an invitation but have not yet signed up, you should soon be receiving a reminder email. If you have not received an invitation but would like one, please email me or Kelly Ping and we'll get one out to you.

Don't let cost be an obstacle, we'll help you!  To learn more about this opportunity contact Ted or Christina in the Missions office.
  • Mark your calendars for an exciting Bed Race for Family Promise on May 16th!  It will be held at the Santa Fe College track at 8:30 to noon with a Bed Parade followed by the races.   Trinity plans to have at least two teams who will need your support.  The teams will consist of 5 persons each and they will be soliciting funds for Family Promise as part of their team effort.  Watch for more details and support this fun event to raise money for Family Promise and their efforts to care for homeless children and their families.
Faith Mission

Faith Mission, located at 3701 NE 15th Street, is a church and neighborhood collaboration.  Our purpose is to form a vibrant, mission-oriented, and Christ-centered community of faith that will closely partner with area residents for the well-being of us all.

Opportunities to serve:
  • We need 2 or 3 people to reinstall the basketball goal.  We have a new base thanks to Dick Schaeffer and it needs to be set into concrete.  Who doesn't love working with concrete?  It would be great to get this done in the next two weeks.
  • Like working with wood?  We need 3 or 4 people to build panels for the great space (former sanctuary).  These panels will serve a dual role as acoustical tiles and decoration to add color to the space.  This will be an important addition to the building, both for removing the current "echo-chamber" effect and for aesthetics.
  • Coming up on a Saturday in May (date TBD soon):  We are going to support improvements at Rawlings with a volunteer work day.  Tasks will include moving books and furnishings and likely some landscaping.  Be on the lookout for the date soon.
If you can help and volunteer for any of these special opportunities please email Ward.
