In 2014 Architects Without Borders-Oregon launched a focus on homeless. We sought out experts in the Portland community and held two educational meetings. The first was a discussion of past, present and future approaches to the problem, with representatives from the Portland Housing Bureau, JOIN, and Transition Projects. The second explored a spectrum of housing options from tiny houses to full-service shelters such as Bud Clark Commons. AWB has now partnered with JOIN to design a modular facility where homeless people can store possessions-a need identified in the educational meetings. The storage project team is addressing issues of location, security, scalability, aesthetics, and cost. Watch for more coverage of this project in future issues of the AWB Newletter.
