Jeremiah 6:16 - "Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.  But they said, We will not walk therein."

In this verse of scripture the Prophet uses an illustration like a man at a fork in the road.  This traveler must decide which way to go.  He sees lots of people traveling the new path, because it is wide and easy.  He asks some of the passersby where the old path might be found.  No one seems to be able to tell him.  Finally he finds someone who has been traveling for quite a while and asks him and this traveler points him to a narrow, beaten up path, that is hard to see for all the bushes.

Jeremiah adds to the verse encouraging the traveler to take time to think when you come to a crossroad, spend time observing and assessing where you will go before blindly following all the others, ask or inquire about the old paths, the tried and true, the good way.  Then go ahead and as you follow the good way, rest is assured.

The tragedy of this verse is the traveler is unwilling to follow the good path.  There are too many walking the wide, easy path for him to choose the well-worn narrow path, hidden in the bushes.

In this modern age of so many advancements, with so many options, this age of religious entertainment, dare we choose the wide easy way and stubbornly refuse to walk in the good path?  God forbid!

Back to School Prayer Call

Chandra White-Cummings
Date:  Monday, September 29, 2014It's that time of year again. Children all over the country have returned to school after another too-short summer break.  Many kids are dreading this new year because for them it means more bullying, cyber drama, violence in their schools, social pressure, and the stress of dealing with the threat of being disciplined or educated based on race or gender. Let's start this school year on the offensive by proactively petitioning our Father to cover, protect, guide, and strengthen students this year. Please join your faith with Hearts Like Water:Praying for Our Kids in Times Like These prayer outreach on an important back-to-school call

Know Your Bible

The comments that we get back regarding the weekly Bible quiz are exciting and encouraging.  People really enjoy doing the work to answer these questions.  It is a simple yet impactful way to learn more about the Word of God.  For those of you who answer each week, we will never get tired of recognizing and celebrating your efforts and commitment.  To those of you who don't participate, my prayer is that there will be so many of you that we will need to start a whole new newsletter just to list the names!

No Weapon Formed Against Me - Fred Hammond

Isaiah 54: 11-17
"Afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted,
    I will rebuild you with stones of turquoise,[a]
    your foundations with lapis lazuli.
12 I will make your battlements of rubies,
    your gates of sparkling jewels,
    and all your walls of precious stones.
13 All your children will be taught by the Lord,
    and great will be their peace.
14 In righteousness you will be established:
Tyranny will be far from you;
    you will have nothing to fear.
Terror will be far removed;
    it will not come near you.
15 If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;
    whoever attacks you will surrender to you.

16 "See, it is I who created the blacksmith
    who fans the coals into flame
    and forges a weapon fit for its work.
And it is I who have created the destroyer to wreak havoc;
17     no weapon forged against you will prevail,
    and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
    and this is their vindication from me,"
declares the Lord.

Gratitude Journal

Who's grateful?  Gratitude is in the air!

Pat Brown

Pat says .....

1.  I am grateful for the Victorious Life Ministries prayer team who prayed for and with me when I was sick.
2.  I am grateful that God heard and answered our prayers.
3.  I am grateful that one year ago my orthopedist told me that if I ever wanted to walk without a cane and pain I would need to have a rod placed in my leg.  Prayer changes things because I never had the operation and not only am I walking without any aid I can power walk.
4.  I am grateful that when I was diagnosed with breast cancer I went through 18 weeks of chemo treatment with not one sick day, I had two surgeries one of them being a mastectomy.
5.  I am grateful that I am now cancer free.
6.  I am grateful because I don't look like all what I have been through.

 I give God all the glory.

Pat we are rejoicing with you.  We watched God do it for you!

Where are the other  grateful people?  Let us hear from you!

What Is A Mentor?

A mentor is a person or friend who guides a less experienced person by building trust and modeling positive behaviors. An effective mentor understands that his or her role is to be dependable, engaged, authentic, and tuned into the needs of the mentee.

Many young people encounter obstacles that they are unprepared to handle.  Many older and more experienced adults have the knowledge to help.  Yet somehow the ones with the needs and the ones with the capacity  to meet the needs never seem to come together.  There are numerous "formal" mentoring programs that exist through various work place programs, sorority/fraternity initiatives and even through some churches.  But what if none of these exist for you, yet you know that you have a lot to offer?  What are you waiting for?  Why not make yourself available?  Go to your local school and volunteer.  If you have identified a family in your community or church where you know that you can assist why not approach the parent(s) and offer to serve as a mentor?  Here is the question.  Can we really afford to sit back and wait for someone to identify us and invite us to participate in a mentoring program?  More importantly, can the young people in our communities afford for us to sit back?

There is a quote attributed to Mary Kay Ash, Founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics - "There are three types of people in this world, people who make things happen, people who watch things happen and people who wonder what happened."

What kind of person do you choose to be?  Make something good happen for a young person.  Become a mentor!
