Happy Independence Day!!!

"Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves."  Matthew 10:16

Obviously, we are living in the age of social media.  Most of us rely on it in one form or another every day of our lives.  There is twitter, instagram, flipagram, myspace and of course facebook and others that I don't even know about.  I had two facebook experiences this week that prompted me to write about it today.  I received a message from a lady that I really don't know making an inquiry regarding someone who is one of my facebook "friends."  She wanted to know how well I knew this particular "friend" because according to this woman, my "friend" and her son had tried to scam her out of some money.  The other incident that I am aware of is a young lady who was  leading the pack for her dream job until the interviewer looked at her facebook page.  She went from ranking head and shoulders above the other candidates to no longer being considered.  Her page was loaded with provocative, highly sexualized  pictures that display a lack of judgment and character, and makes her completely unacceptable for the opportunity that she had in the bag.

So the question that I pose for us today is "has technology, namely facebook become your friend or your enemy?"  As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and one who freely and openly identifies with His death, burial and resurrection, do your facebook posts portray your commitment to Christ or have you lost your identity as a Christian in the madness created by others?

People who know me know that there are very few people who have more fun than me.  I can make and take a joke with the best of them.  I like all kinds of music, line dancing, playing bid whist and spades.  So I am by no stretch of the imagination a "super saint."  Yet I find that all too often facebook deteriorates into a cesspool of vulgarity and carnality that is unbecoming to believers and offensive to anyone, saint or sinner whose goal  is to behave as sensitive and sensible human beings.

Proverbs 17:27-28 - "Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding. Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent."  Venting venom, articulating  angst and publicizing what should be private is not cool!  Intelligence is attractive.   Who goes there?  Check your facebook!

Live A Happier Life

Last week our suggestion for living happier was to be more grateful.  We asked our readers to start a "gratefulness journal" that we would share in this venue.  So far we only had one taker, but I thought that she did a great job.  Sandy Brown of Hillside, New Jersey is grateful for the following:
  • A peaceful night's sleep
  • For God's touch that wakes her up every morning
  • For her job
  • For a caring and loving husband
  • For a Heavenly Father that she can talk to anytime about anything and He hears all her prayers.  Even though He may not answer them right away, just grateful for His presence in her life

Thank you Sandy!  I am grateful for you and people like you who take ministry seriously and do the things that cause you to grow and to see God in even the little things.

What are you grateful for?  Share your journal with our readers.  Let's make being grateful a part of our daily lives.

CDC Encourages African-American Women to Take Charge And Test

In honor of National HIV Testing Day (NHTD), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)  released an expanded suite of materials for Take Charge. Take the Test.™ This national HIV testing campaign is for African-American women between the ages of 18 to 34 to encourage them to get tested for HIV and reduce their risk of HIV infection.

Despite an encouraging decrease in new HIV infections among black women (21 percent between 2008 and 2010), if the current trend continues, 1 in 32 black women will be infected with HIV in their lifetimes.

Getting tested for HIV is easier than ever. You can ask your doctor for a test, or you can check the HIV Testing Site & Care Services Locator, call 1-800-CDC-INFO, or text your ZIP code to "KNOW IT" (566948) for a nearby testing site. Health insurance usually covers the test, and some sites offer free testing, or you can also use one of the FDA-approved home testing kits.

Traveling Shoes

Do you know a child in your community, school or church, or even your own child who needs new shoes.  The Traveling shoes outreach want to change that.  The process is simple and easy.  All we need is the following information:
  • The name and address of the requesting adult.
  • The age and gender of the child
  • The shoe size

There are no forms to fill out, no proof of anything required, simply advise us of the need!

Through the generous support of the friends and supporters of this ministry, young people all over the United States are wearing good shoes and new socks.

Know Your Bible

Our participants are loving the Bible quiz each week!  You really should get involved.

The question for Friday, June 27th was:

Jesus accused the Pharisees of hypocritically paying tithes on herbs, and omitting

which weightier matters of the law?

The correct response is found in Matthew 23:23 - Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

Our bible scholars for this question:

Florida

Mrs. Gloria Benjamin

Ms. Nellie Davis

Mrs. Carolyn Coleman

Mrs. Pat Brown

Ms. Marion Shelby

Mrs. Loretta Pete

Ms. Francine Boykin

Mrs. Gloria Singleton (Note:  we owe Mrs. Singleton an apology.  She also provided the correct response to the previous week's question.  Her name was omitted in error.)

Illinois

Mrs. Lena Whitaker

New Jersey

Mrs. Sandra Brown

Delaware
Minister Iris Waters

Your question for today, July 4th is:

In the ritual cleansing of a leper under the Law of Moses, which animals were to be offered on the eighth day?

A correct response must include not only the answer but the scripture reference.

Come on scholars, let's learn the Word!

Praise Report
Hi Faye,
I can see the efforts of prayer in my granddaughter, she looks happier and has been accepted in the summer program at University with all expenses paid.  Continue to keep our families in prayer and thank you and everyone else for their prayerful interventions and blessings.  We just returned last night from my granddaughters graduation.

May God Bless you and all of those who are praying for all of us!

This praise report is from a Sister who called us to pray for her granddaughter who was headed down the wrong path.  God did a quick work and turned the situation completely around!

You are invited to participate in the Victory in Prayer conference calls, held twice each week.  Monday evening from 7:00 to 7:30pm est and Wednesday morning from 6:30 to 7:00am est.  Call 1 712 423 3066, code 930692.

It is our daily prayer that those who do not know Christ in the pardon of their sins will come to know Him.  If you have never received Christ pray this prayer -

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead.  I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In your name, amen.

If you prayed this prayer  in faith, you have passed from death to life, from darkness to light.  Heaven is rejoicing over you.  If you received Christ today email us so that we can add you to our prayer list.

Remember, prayer changes everything!

To Your Good Health

Why Sprouted Grain Breads ?

These  breads contain sprouted whole grain (or kernel, or berry) of various seeds, although only after they have been sprouted. Sprouted grains may have as much as 50-1350 times more minerals and vitamins than non-sprouted grains.

Wheat is not the only grain used to make sprouted breads. Grains and legumes such as millet, barley, oat, lentil  and soy may also be used.

I highly recommend Ezekial 4:9 sprouted grain products, which are crafted in the likeness of the Holy Scripture verse Ezekiel 4:9. These are available in most grocery stores in the health/frozen food section. Here is some information about sprouted grains directly from the "Food for Life" company website.

  • Source of Complete Protein - Rated 84.3% as efficient as the highest source of protein (comparable to that of milk or eggs)
  • Contains 18 Amino Acids - Including all 9 essential amino acids
  • Increased Digestibility - Sprouting breaks down starches in grains into simple sugars so your body can digest them easily.
  • Increased Absorption of Minerals - Sprouting breaks down enzyme inhibitors, so your body can more easily absorb calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and zinc.
  • Increased Vitamin C - Sprouting produces vitamin C.
  • Increased Vitamin B - Sprouting increases the vitamin B2, B5 & B6.
  • Great source of Fiber - Combining sprouted grains and legumes gives a good amount of natural fiber in each serving.

Here is the company website link for  information this wonderful company and more about sprouted grain breads.
