Daniel  6:1-3 - "It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred and twenty satraps to be over the whole kingdom, and over these, three governors, of whom Daniel was one, that the satraps might give account to them, so that the king would suffer no loss.  Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors, and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm."

When I read this passage the other day, it lit a fire under me and I hope that it will do the same for you.  There are many people in of the Body of Christ that are gifted.  They have remarkable abilities in their particular discipline; singing, preaching, teaching, playing an instrument or whatever.  But somehow they never quite seem to reach their full potential.  They are frequently disappointed and some even blame God for their lackluster accomplishments, even though everyone knows that they are gifted.  Then there are the others who take off like a rocket ship and they are all the rage for a while, but something derails them and they lose ground and fail to finish strong.

I am convinced that the key to being all that God intends you to be is in this text.  Daniel at this point was over 80 years old and had enjoyed God's blessing throughout his life.  What is it that made him different, that distinguished him and caused him to be promoted?  The text says it was his "excellent spirit."  What does this mean, an excellent spirit?  There are several things that we see here.  Daniel had experience with God, he had wisdom, a sense of history, leadership, a good reputation, ability, attitude and revelation from the God of heaven.  It was not ability alone that distinguished, but ability accompanied by all of these other character traits.  I read where one preacher said, "Daniel had an excellent spirit because he allowed the Spirit to excel in him."

I don't know about you, but I refuse to become the poster child for what could have been!  I will be all, and accomplish all that God intends.  I am not only praying that God create in me a clean heart, but also an excellent spirit!

Sister 2 Sister- Domestic Violence
business_ppl5.jpg
Domestic violence is not a topic of conversation that is readily discussed among the church folks.  Yet the statistics say that one out of every four Christian couples experiences at least one episode of physical abuse within their marriage. In fact, battering is the single largest cause of injury to women-more than auto accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists reports that 3 to 4 million women are beaten in their homes every year. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, approximately 2,000 women are murdered every year by an intimate partner.

Abuse takes various forms - Emotional and verbal abuse are the cutting remarks a spouse uses to destroy his wife's sense of self-worth. A man may label a woman fat or stupid. He may demean her personal accomplishments or scream at her that the dinner she cooked is terrible. Perhaps he yells at her because she's 15 minutes late coming home from work.

Physical abuse is when a man injures his wife in a nonsexual manner. Then there's sexual abuse-when a spouse forces sex on his partner. Most states have adopted laws protecting married women against spousal rape. But because there's so much shame involved for the woman, she may be hesitant to come forward about this.

I Peter 1:3-6 is often used by abusers to justify their behavior.  But read verse 7 and it clearly shows that no man has the right to punish or retaliate against  his wife under any circumstances.

Victims of domestic abuse can find local support organizations and hotlines by visiting the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence's website,  www.ncadv.org  . You may also find additional help at Focus Ministries.  Go to www.focusministries1.org

To Your Good Health

Preventing Breast Cancer

There is a growing body of  research to support that breast cancer risk correlates directly with lifetime estrogen exposure.

Three factors that contribute to higher lifetime estrogen exposure are 1) early age of menarche 2) late age of  menopause and 3) high levels of circulating blood estrogen. A diet high in animal based food and low in fiber, increases the chance each of these factors occurring. Alternatively, a high fiber, whole food plant based diet decreases reduces these factors, and in turn results in a lower lifetime exposure to circulating estrogen.

According to the China Study research, lifetime exposure to estrogen is 2.5-3 times greater among Western women, compared with rural Chinese. This very likely goes a long way toward explaining why breast cancer rates are significantly higher in the United States and other Western countries compared with rural China.

In my opinion, based on the published research, breast cancer is often preventable simply by adopting a whole food, plant based diet.

Let's stop  breast cancer before it happens !

God bless !

Compelled to Reach the Finish Line

Pam Ford Davis
How do I rate myself as a runner? To be honest, I am not athletically inclined. Yet, when exercising, I jog or march in place. I have not calculated miles but perceive they are quite a few. If in actual competition, a runner must keep up the pace. Dawdling will not do. It's 'not' a Sunday afternoon drive. With each step forward, they feel compelled to reach the finish line in first place.

There is also a place for 'patience' in a runner's training. Few find themselves in the finish line's winner circle their first time running. Victory requires diligent practice. Though beginners realize their limitations, inexperience does not deter them. They enter shorter races, in preparation for 'the big race.' What motivates a true runner to cross the finish line? They have their eyes focused on their primary goal.

"Therefore since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us, and run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of God's throne (Hebrews 12:1-2 HCS)."

Did you know that marriage is a ministry?? Yes ....it is! In fact; it is ordained by God as a gift to the family structure.

Of course, we all know that there is no accurate recipe to being married. However, with most recipes; we add or subtract ingredients to make it just right. We must use the best recipe that works for us while reinsuring that we are receiving Godly instruction.

William McDowell - Withholding Nothing

We are living in a time where people believe that they are writing their own script.  Many have little to no regard for God, choosing to do what is right in their own eyes. But there is still a Word from the Lord:

I Corinthians 6:19-20 - Don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God; 20 he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God's glory.

Will you give God a yes, withholding nothing?
Prayer Matters

How is your prayer life?  If you feel the need to be strengthened then join us each week for the Victory in Prayer Conference call.  You have two opportunities, Monday evenings from 7:00 to 7:30pm and Wednesday mornings from 6:30 to 7:00am, both eastern standard times.  We join with others from around the country, seeking God in prayer.  The call in number is 712 432 3066; access code 930692.

Based on the freedoms that people have and the license that they take, with everyone doing what pleases them one would think  that folks should be deliriously happy.  Yet, there is such extreme misery in the world, evidenced by the numbers of tragic stories that we see in the news on a daily basis.  Our prayer focus for today is to pray against suicide.  The only antidote to the despair that is in the world is Jesus.  Help us pray for the hearts of men to be turned back to the Father!

Have you received Christ as your personal Savior?  If not, today is a great day to be saved.  Pray this prayer -

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead.  I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In your name, amen.

If you prayed this prayer  in faith, you have passed from death to life, from darkness to light.  Heaven is rejoicing over you.

If you need prayer, we are here for you.  You may email - [email protected] or leave your request on our website at www.vl-ministries.org or call us at (888) 479 1113.
