The Celebration of Giving 2012

Were you there for the annual ICF reception for grant recipients on September 27?  If so, you were treated to a wonderful dinner funded and hosted by the ICF Board and a presentation by the Idyllwild Historical Society, a 2012 grant recipient.  The evening concluded with a powerpoint presentation that gave an overview of the "giving" history of ICF and demonstrated the benefits of cooperation among mountain community organizations.

Giving Back.....It Just Feels Good

and.....'tis the Season for Giving

Each year at this time we celebrate holidays that bring together families and friends from on and off the hill. Many of us are also inspired to give to charitable organizations in hopes of making a difference in the lives of others. Since 1996, when the Idyllwild Community Fund received a startup gift from a generous couple, we have been able to make a difference in the lives of children and adults who share this special community.

We have used the interest accrued from the original gift plus donations that have been received each year for the past sixteen years to award grants to a number of non-profit organizations on the hill. This past year, grants were awarded to Animal Rescue Friends, Friends of San Jacinto Mountain County Parks, Human Relations Council, Isis Theatre Company, smARTS Program, Idyllwild HELP Center, Mountain Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safe Council, Idyllwild Area Historical Society, and the Garden Club of Idyllwild. Since 1996, a total of $160,344 has been disbursed, without touching any of the principle, to insure a lasting legacy for the village of Idyllwild.

Our newest project, the Youth Grantmakers Program, is designed to introduce school-age children to philanthropy, and, hopefully, to instill in them a recognition of the importance of giving to others. We are excited about this innovative venture and hope you will join us in making the experience a positive one for the students and for the community by including the Idyllwild Community Fund in your holiday giving plans.

We thank you in anticipation of your gift and wish you health and happiness throughout the coming year.

"It's Time to Focus on Our Youth"...Trish Tuley

We're so excited about our new Idyllwild Youth Grantmakers program. In January 2
013, ten Idyllwild School students will be introduced to philanthropy. They will address community issues that involve youth by awarding grants to local non-profit organizations.  Our goal is to empower this vulnerable and under-recognized age group to become involved in a profound way with their community and to help to eliminate the concept  "there's nothing to do ".

Through this program our young people will become active agents of change.  We at ICF are very grateful to The Community Foundation which will support ICF in this endeavor both financially and with hands-on training.  If you would like to support this new program, please notate "YOUTH" on your donation.

I left the corporate world in 1993 and took up company with a camera.  After exploring the Pacific Northwest for a couple years, I yearned for the California mindset and came back to the place that I had promised myself 20 years earlier that I would live. Immediately, I was swept up into the Earth Fair committee and served as treasurer of Friends of the San Jacinto Mountain County Parks.  I am honored to be on the ICF Advisory Board, love singing with Local Color and enjoy sharing my photographs with the community.
