Packard's Points of Light
Volunteers - Appreciated!

With strong hands, kind hearts, special knowledge, and technical skills, Packard Health volunteers pitch in to tackle our community's needs. We celebrate their service and offer our heartfelt thanks for all the things they do.

When the Food Gatherers truck pulls up to Packard Health West, Coe Crawford is ready and waiting. Produce, refrigerated items, and dry goods need to be moved and stored - and Coe is our man.

The pantry is a vital resource for some of our patients and keeping it well stocked is a fine collaboration of our patient advocates, volunteers, and the local organizations and individuals who donate so generously. Coe's tasks include helping shoppers select their panty items.

His favorite part of volunteering? Walking in the door and getting all those smiles from the staff!

Scott Shaw brings an engineer's precision and persistence to his tasks at Packard Health - after all, he made a career of auto safety computer support at General Motors. These days you'll find him upstairs, immersed in file transfers and document storage, the technical work of databases.

Scott came to Packard Health six years ago and he's taken on everything from squeaky chairs to complex computer systems. Community contribution has always been his focus, from making cars safe to volunteering at Packard Health.

Gina Aliste is a kind and smiling presence at the pantry at Packard Health Main on Saturday morning. When the phone rings from downstairs, she's off to meet the shoppers, guiding them in their selections and sending them home with bags of food.

Gina is originally from Chile and came to the US to join family already here. She is studying at Washtenaw Community College to be a medical assistant - only a few months to go! It's the perfect occupation for a person who cares about others in a heartfelt, hands-on way.  Gracias!

Over the course of a year Packard Health helps more than 1000 people enroll in newly available health insurance made possible by the Affordable Care Act. Guiding people through the application process takes an attention-to-detail, people-person, and volunteer Susan Cameron is just that. A retired attorney (family and criminal law) and librarian, as well as an energetic volunteer around town, Susan took extensive online training to qualify for her Packard Health position. Her favorite part of volunteering? Seeing the "Accepted" message flash on the screen when the applicant finds out he or she is eligible for insurance - and the smile on a client's face.

Sharon Moore's commitment to Packard Health goes back decades - to the days of Dr. Jerry Walden and the founding office on Spring Street. Today she sits on the Board of Directors and helps with the pantry on Saturday mornings. She loves the sharing aspect of pantry volunteering, in which food is given, stories swapped, understanding and appreciation gained one and all. She's impressed by the pantry shoppers who read ingredient labels, having learned from Packard Health's nutrition education programs.

We know loyalty when we see it - Sharon!
