Upcoming Events
Within Itasca School District's website (www.itasca.k12.il.us), a calendar for the 2012-2013 school year contains a listing of all upcoming events. Each school provides a variety of opportunities for students to showcase their accomplishments, as well as parents/guardians to visit our schools. |

Budget
For the 2012-2013 school year, the District is operating with a budget deficit of approximately $557,000. The budget deficit is the result of lost federal and state funding for needed programs, such as reading support and transportation. The 2013-2014 budget will be shaped largely by the outcome of the referendum vote on April 9th. Should the referendum pass, funding will be available to maintain programs at their current funding levels. Should the referendum not pass, the administration is preparing for significant cuts to close the budget deficit for the 2013-2014 school year. |
Buildings and Grounds
During the summer of 2013, Itasca 10 will be replacing the roof at Peacock Middle school and renovating the floors at Benson Primary School. These projects are long-term facilities upgrades that will allow our school buildings to continue to function well in the future. It is important to note the funding for construction projects comes out of a different "bucket" than funding for educational programs. Itasca 10 issued bonds in 2011 specifically for construction projects and those funds must be used for those projects. |

Franzen Chorus to Represent School at Kane County Cougars Game
On Saturday, April 6, Franzen Chorus students will have the opportunity to sing the Star-Spangled Banner before the Kane County Cougars baseball game! We are pleased that these students can represent our school, district, and community.
We have had the chance to tie this opportunity into our academics as well. All Franzen students have had the opportunity to earn a free ticket to the game through a reading incentive during the winter months. Students participating in Ozzie's Reading Club who meet their reading goals will receive a free ticket to the game on April 6 to support their fellow Franzen students.
The chorus program is facilitated by Mrs. Erin Kozakis. The students meet for one hour after school each Wednesday. The chorus tours Itasca before the holidays spreading cheer by singing holiday carols. The chorus also puts on two concerts throughout the year. |

Raymond Benson Primary School
Pennies for Patients
Benson Primary second graders have been participating in the Pennies for Patients community service program for over eleven years. This program promotes the collection of loose change, which supports researching a cure for Leukemia, Lymphoma and other life threatening diseases. Over the years second graders have invited fellow Benson Primary as well as Franzen Intermediate students to participate in this program. This year, Benson Primary and Franzen Intermediate students are once again participating in decorating, distributing and ultimately collecting cans of coins for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. To date our students have raised over 40,000 for this worthwhile program.
The Arts
Primary school students in District #10 are directed in a variety of performances throughout the school year. Within their music lessons, students are provided with instruction in areas such as voice, rhythm and use of instruments. Annually, Benson Primary students present three winter programs during the month of December as well as a musical informance in February. In April, student artwork is displayed throughout the building during the spring Celebration of Learning and Fine Art's Fair. Additionally, for the past several years, specially selected works of art have been created by students with the intent to auction these pieces. Proceeds from previous auctions have been used to purchase technology for the primary building and/or support several non-profit community service organizations/efforts. All of these fine arts opportunities provide the primary school students with the opportunity to display their musical knowledge and artistic talents.
