And for Volunteers Most of All ...

Dear Wonderful Holiday Volunteers,
"WOW" is the word my friends utter when they learn about the tremendous outpouring of volunteer support that makes the holidays here at LBFE so special. Each of you who is joining us to bring companionship and happiness into our elders' lives this Thanksgiving and Christmas are part of the "Wow factor" behind the holidays LBFE-style, and we want you to know that we are so very grateful to each and every one of you.
We also want you to know that if you are volunteering on either holiday, you can expect to hear from us with your assignment details a week ahead of the event, so stay tuned to your e-mail.
We also have a few extra wonderful "get-into-the-holiday-spirit" opportunities for you to check out:
Please also check out our events calendar. Drivers wanted for these events! With sincere thanks for lending your holiday spirit to our efforts to relieve elder loneliness and isolation over the holidays,
Georgia and all of us at LBFE |
Help us Deliver the Gift of Love

Gifts for our elders are starting to pour in, and we could sure use some holiday elves to help us out.
First of all, we need donations of medium and large gift bags.
Gift cards in $5, $10 and $20 denominations for stocking stuffers would also be much-appreciated.
Secondly, we need gift delivery help starting the week of December 14 and going right through the holidays. Delivery dates and times are entirely flexible to suit your schedule.
Finally, we would love us help some decorating our community room for the holidays. We have decorations on site and would like decorations in place by December 4.
If can donate gift bags or gift cards or would enjoy delivering holiday presents and smiles to our elders, please call Sandy O'Donnell at 612-746-0724 or e-mail her at sodonnell@littlebrothersmn.org.

ELDER DAY DREAMS & BIRD LOVERS
From the Desk of Program Manager Christina Fairbanks
Elder Day Dreams offers simple, creative one-time opportunities for volunteers to treat elders and turn simple dreams into reality.
Three wonderful elders I visit all have one thing in common: They are avid bird watchers, and all three would love to have bird seed to keep their companions happy and plump over the winter. All three ladies live in the Highland Park area of St. Paul and all have multiple feeders in their yards.
Ruth is 98 and a nature lover! She credits her age to exercise. She and her late husband were an outdoors couple and loved to going camping, skating, hiking. During my last visit we sat on Ruth's patio and watched the birds flock around the feeders. Her favorites are the yellow chickadees, and she's even partial to the squirrels. Kay, who lives not far away, is always keeping tabs on the squirrels, birds, and other wildlife passing through her yard, which she likes to make extra inviting for her feathered friends adding birdbaths to the feeders in her yard. Unlike Ruth, she is not a fan of thieving squirrels, however!
Helen has a number of feeders in her backyard, too, and loves to watch the parade of squirrels, birds, rabbits, and chipmunks that keep us entertained when I visit her. She always laughs at how fast the critters run and loves to watch the birds take wing.

I would love to hear from you if you'd like to help fulfill Ruth, Kay and Helen's Elder Day Dream to keep their feathered friends plump this winter.
P.S. I'm sure Ruth or Kay or Helen would love to meet you if you'd like to do a bird-seed run to one of their homes with me!
Please be aware, LBFE cannot issue in-kind donation receipts to volunteers for costs associated with Elder Dreams. Thank you
