Great ways to enjoy the summer with your elder friend

Early summer in Minnesota opens up many new possibilities for activities and enjoyment - for you and your elder friend.

Easy ideas to celebrate the season
  • Share a cup of coffee in a shady outdoor spot.
  • Reminisce about past summers, vacations and Independence Days. Share photos, too!
  • Go out for a drive.
  • Have an indoor or outdoor picnic.
  • Take notice of a nearby garden, and watch it grow in the upcoming months.
  • Check out a neighbor's garage sale.
  • Attend a free concert in the park.
Stay safe when venturing out
  • Insist your elder friend uses her/his walker or wheelchair.
  • Choose routes with ramps rather than steps whenever possible.
  • Allow plenty of time to cross streets.
  • Stay sun-safe with a hat or visor and sunscreen.
  • Bring water so you both stay hydrated.
  • Be prepared to change your plans if the weather gets too hot.

Join us at Pride 2015!

LBFE is proud to again participate in the Twin Cities Pride Festival. The Pride Festival features over 400 exhibitors, 40 food and beverage booths, 20 sponsors, and 300,000+ visitors who participate in this free celebration of the LGBT community. The festival will take place June 27-28 at Loring Park in Minneapolis. Our booth will be part of the "Boomer Town" area.

Because we recognize that seniors in the LGBT community face a far greater risk of isolation, as well as fear of discrimination that often prevents them from seeking critical care, we have partnered with various LGBT organizations in the past three years to address this issue - including the Pride Festival.

If you would like to help represent LBFE at our booth June 27 or 28, please contact LuAnne Speeter at lspeeter@littlebrothersmn.org
or 612.746.0753. Two shifts are available each day: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 2-6 p.m.
