Needed: Friendship and Flowers Volunteers this Saturday
Friendship and Flowers is a great way to make a big impact on the lives of a few elders - and on your own life - in a short period of time. And now's the perfect time to try it. If you're a current volunteer, please consider lending a hand this Saturday, May 16.
How it works: As a Friendship and Flowers volunteer, you'll pick up packages of flowers and treats from one of two sites (Minneapolis or St. Paul) between 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, along with the names and addresses of one or more homebound elders to visit. You'll then drop by the elders' homes or assisted living facilities on your list to drop off the goodies and visit. Read more here.

Drive an elder, stay for fun
LBFE's Daytime Event Driver volunteers are key to help engage elders in their community. Our events are attended by over 80 LBFE participants per month on average -- each needing round-trip transportation. A Daytime Event Driver provides critical transportation, but also brightens the elder's day with friendly conversation both in the car and at the event.
Please consider becoming a volunteer driver for events, or let friends or family members know about our need. Volunteers find that they get as much from the relationships they build as our elders. This is a great volunteer opportunity for:
- Retirees
- Individuals who work evenings and/or part-time
- Stay-at-home-parent families
- Families of school-age kids during summer break
- Individuals whose employers allow time off to do volunteer work
Our regular events include birthday celebrations, cards and crafts groups, bingo, intergenerational activities, special outings and much more. Events are held in various locations all around the Twin Cities so elders and volunteers have opportunities to attend something close to home each month.
