Among Volunteers masthead_gif

APRIL 2015
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month

We here at LBFE want you to know just how much we appreciate you! You really make a difference in the lives of our elder friends. We are eternally grateful -- for all the calls, cards and rides. For all the card games, conversations and coffees. For all the friendships forged, for the laughter and tears. You are at the heart of LBFE.

Look for more information to come on a Volunteer Appreciation Event later this spring.

Farewell!  Josh Windham

It is with mixed feelings that I inform you that I am leaving LBFE. I have accepted a position with the Union Gospel Mission in St. Paul and will have already begun working there by the time you read this.

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed my time at LBFE. I have learned so much and feel privileged to have worked with amazing leaders in the field such as yourselves. I wouldn't trade my time here for anything. Thank you for all you do for this community. I will truly miss working with you all and hope that our paths will cross again in the near future!

Josh Windham

The staff and board of LBFE extends its gratitude to Josh, and wishes him all the best in the future. For volunteer questions during this interim period, please contact Danielle Fehring at dfehring@littlebrothersmn.org or 612.764.0726.
Thank you, Easter volunteers!

Our 2015 Easter Dinner was another great success. The elders had a wonderful time. We couldn't have done it without you, so please accept our deepest gratitude. Check out more Easter photos on Facebook.

For those of you new to LBFE, we invite you to consider our ongoing volunteer opportunities:
  • If you loved your Easter meal delivery experience, perhaps our monthly Friendship and Flowers program is for you! Deliver LBFE treats and flowers to homebound Twin Cities elders just one Saturday morning per month. Read more about Friendship and Flowers here.

  • If you felt a connection with an elder from the event, you may want to consider our Visiting Volunteers program. A handful of our elder-volunteer friendships have grown from chance meetings at the holiday events! Visiting Volunteers make calls and visits with an LBFE elder who has been thoughtfully matched to them. Learn more about Visiting Volunteers here.
For more information, including taking the next steps with these opportunities, please contact Danielle at dfehring@littlebrothersmn.org or 612.746.0726.

Thank you again for bringing joy to our elders by sharing your holiday with us!

 Summertime volunteering with youth
   Ames Lake
Summer break is just around the corner for most families. Consider volunteering together over the summer (and beyond) for a meaningful way to bridge the school years and foster your family's connectedness.

Another bonus: volunteering looks great on college and scholarship applications, and can help them land their first jobs.
