Have you ever wondered how to navigate the available health services in Columbia County? If you're like us, you've found it rather daunting trying to locate your health support services, so we decided to invite some of them to the market to meet us all in one easy accessible place!
You could call it a one-day pop-up health market for folk who care about good health, supporting local farms, and want to know more!
Folk who need help getting food stamps, health insurance, free cancer screening, mental health services, nutrition advice, and senior services can come to this special Wellness Market at the Philmont Sunday Farmers Market on September 14, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Representatives from non-profit agencies will be on hand to help people navigate the often overwhelming procedures required to receive health-related
services.
Columbia County's Healthcare Consortium works with individuals to sign up for health insurance with the New York State of Health Marketplace, including Medicaid and Child Health Plus, and offers the Cancer Services Program of Columbia and Greene Counties, which provides free cancer screening for the uninsured. Facilitators from this agency will be at Sunday's Wellness Market to assist people in getting their services.
Other organizations that will be at Sunday's market are NAMI, Catholic Charities, Eat Smart New York, Office of the Aging, and Birth Columbia.
Also present at the market will be a number of other wellness practitioners, including massage therapist, Danica Wolkiser; chiropractor, Teshna Beaulieu, DC; Mitchel Burch talking about Reiki and crystal healing; and a certified doula, Rachel Haley, with information on support for babies and mothers available from Birth Columbia.
Children will also find fun activities at Sunday's market. The Sylvia Center will lead activities and taste testings to show kids how delicious healthy fresh foods can be.
Singer-songwriter, Abby Lappen, will delight listeners with music from her newly released CD, and tarot readings will be available by Ian in the cafe area.
Asia Luna, a weekly vendor at the Philmont Sunday Farmers Market, will also be there to offer their healing essential-oil products, as will regulars Hans Schober Farm, Marshmeadow Farm, Sharing Pies, Light Force Foods, Common Hands Farm, and Furse Photos.
While at the market, come and see the beautiful horse barn being raffled off on Friday, November 28th. The horse barn,
donated by Philmont residents, Cate Decker and Charlie Doheny, was built by Charlie and Tara Shumer-Decker. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit The Philmont Market & Caf Cooperative and the "Growing Our Co-op Together" campaign.
