The Docket  February 2013

Greetings!

I'm proud to join Lawyers Feeding Illinois, a competitive food and fund-raising campaign among lawyers and legal organizations across the state, which runs from February 18 - March 1.

This effort supports the work of the eight member food banks of Feeding Illinois. I've selected the Greater Chicago Food Depository to benefit from my efforts, so
any contributions directly supports our local community. To check the status of my efforts, visit HERE.

Thank you for helping me reach 100 Facebook fans and for your continued referrals.

FREE Expert Resources

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit education organization behind Sesame Street, now offers a wealth of divorce-focused materials through its "Little Children, Big Challenges"
series of toolkits. Online materials - targeted both at parents and children - include tips sheets and videos with familiar characters from the show.

The top three tips for parents to help their children through the divorce include;

1. Spend quiet time with your child just snuggling and letting him/her know how much you love him/her.

2. Assure your child that a divorce is a grown-up issue, and he/she did nothing to cause the divorce.

3. Look at a calendar together as you talk about where your child will be on each day.

Did you know?

The Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act says that bureaus, banks and other institutions can furnish credit reports only to ex-spouses or third parties who have a "permissionable purpose."

This term sounds like legal jargon at its best, but this is a nice description of what it actually entails.

Classrooms Resources

As Presidents' Day approaches, teachers are looking for ways to spotlight law-related materials in their classrooms. The Illinois State Bar Association aims to educate the public and students of all ages

about the important role lawyers and judges play within our justice system. To view available materials, please visit HERE.

Q: Does the court ever extend child support payments beyond age 18?
A: Child support may continue through the age of 19 if the child still attends high school.

Sometimes, court-ordered support will continue if the child is attending college or suffers educational and learning disabilities.
