We are grateful that God has called us to be apart of this ministry in which we are blessed to partner with folks on both sides of the border, from many different faith traditions, cultural backgrounds and political persuasions seeking to make the world a more peace-filled, just, and loving world reflecting God's intentions for the world.

We are grateful for your partnership in our ministry and continue to need your prayers, encouragement and support!  Please consider supporting your ministry here on the border with a one time or recurring gift at our online donation site!

Educating and Being Educated at a

Phoenix High School

Daisy Hernandez, a teacher at Tolleson High School in Phoenix who had participated with FDC with a delegation from Hope College several years ago, invited Brenda Cuellar, the US Coordinator of the Migrant Resource Center, to share with her students about border and immigration issues. Brenda's participation helped open conversation, minds and hearts among the students and teacher about the reality of immigration.

Brenda writes: "Tears flowed from their eyes as they spoke about missing their family members who are in Mexico. One girl spoke about her upcoming Quinceañera (a traditional celebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday) and her deep desire of wanting her grandparents to be present. She was so hopeful but also aware of the sad reality that they might not attend due to documentation."

Christian Reformed Church Group Visits US/Mexico Border
article written by CRC Office of Social Justice

The Christian Reformed Church's Office of Social Justice led a group of 20 pastors and others to the Arizona- Mexico border from March 9-12 to expose them to issues of immigration that people on both sides of border are facing.

Kelsey Herbert, a Congregational Mobilizer Fellow for the Office of Social Justice, says a goal of the trip was to encourage a greater dialogue in churches about looking at immigration from a faith-based perspective.

"I was reminded of something we can so often forget, that all human beings-no matter their circumstances, job title, criminal record, political bent, or legal status-are images bearers and beloved of God. Until we see the migrant in this way, we cannot expect our policy making to be kingdom-minded,"  said Jordan Humm, a first-year divinity student at Calvin Seminary.

Participants came from California, Iowa, New Jersey, and Michigan. The trip included four members of the Reformed Church in America as well.

Hospitality: Opening Our Arms, Extending Friendship

excerpt from keynote sermon of Joca Gallegos, Mexican Coordinator of FDC, at the regional youth gathering at the Voz del Desierto Presbyterian Church in Hermosillo.

I think sometimes for us today with so many situations that happen around us, it is easy to forget the hospitality is much easier to build walls, physical walls and invisible. They can be because do not know the other, because I'm scared out of myself, or because I have too many prejudices. The sad thing is these walls that keep me from having a relationship, that is, I lock myself and limit my act in life.

The Frontera de Cristo Ministry has taught me over the years, this part of life, extending arms to others is to strengthen friendship, is to live with migrants, is to see women who seek a better future for themselves and their families is to see children grow and develop in a healthy environment is recognized as being free of drugs and alcohol give new meaning to the lives of people, is to live and share the Kingdom of God in the life of the community, receiving a group that comes to understand the reality of our border, is tirelessly preaching the wonders that God has for each of us, is this and much more.

Presbyterian Border Region Outreach Hosts National Council of Church Leaders on US/Mexico Border

The Stated Clerk of the General Assembly, the Reverend Gradye Parsons, and members of the Office of the General Assembly and World Mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) were honored in February to spend a day with our ecumenical partners from the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A. (NCC) and international partners from the Waldensian Church of Italy addressing issues of migration and border policy in El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The NCC lends their collective voice to issues of migration and wrote a powerful statement just this summer addressing our country's treatment of families and children fleeing Central America.
