Calvin Coolidge

This week we shout out the Calvin Coolidge Foundation for sponsoring the second annual Coolidge Cup. The Coolidge Cup will be held this coming Saturday (12/10/16) at William Bryant High School. The tournament is open to high school and eighth grade middle school debaters. Thanks to the Coolidge Foundation, full scholarships will be offered to the top teams and speakers in each division to the Coolidge Presidential Debate Camp in Vermont. Schools can click here to learn more and register for the tournament.

The Coolidge Foundation was founded in 1960 to preserve and promote the legacy of President Calvin Coolidge. Among its many programs is a major debate program that brings hundreds of high schoolers to Plymouth Notch, Vermont (the birthplace of Calvin Coolidge) each summer to learn about debate topics related to presidential decision making. Click here to learn more about the Coolidge High School Presidential Debate Program. The Coolidge Foundation also has an annual scholarship program (The Coolidge Scholarship) that provides a full 4 year scholarship to any university in America. We were honored that one of our debaters was selected last year! Click here to learn more.

And so this year we are proud to partner again with the Coolidge Foundation to promote the best education opportunities for youth. So join us this Saturday as a debater (click here!) or as a volunteer (click here!).

Sincerely,
Erik Fogel, Executive Director

About the New York City Urban Debate League
The New York City Urban Debate League is the largest urban debate league in the nation and only urban debate league that is year round. We impact several thousand students and over 100 schools each month by supporting debate practices every day, debate tournaments every weekend, community debate centers every week, teacher professional development conferences every month, out of state travel opportunities every month, and debate institutes all summer. We are the winner of the White House Youth Awards, which recognizes the nation's top after school programs....

"The New York City Urban Debate League is a program that empowers underserved students while immersing them in public speaking, research techniques, civics, law and ethnic studies.  Along with countless debating trophies, the program boasts years of data showing that their alums have higher grade point averages, high school graduation rates, college acceptances and number of scholarships than their peers." - Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, the First Lady of the United States, and the Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, honoring us with the National Arts and Humanities Award for one of the top after school programs in the nation in the arts and humanities

Sincerely,

The New York City Urban Debate League Team
