This week we celebrate the beginning of the 2014-2015 Debate Season with our Back to School Fundraiser! Debate! Art! Live Music! Performances! on Friday, September 19th in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to support the NYC Debate League! We thank the Late Bloomers, an incredible organization that supports the arts for hosting this incredible opportunity! We will be at 7 Dunham Pl, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY. Doors open at 7:00pm! Live Music! DJs! Art! Debaters! Open Bar! If unable to attend you can still donate to the NYC Debate League to support our mission that EVERY school should have a debate team and EVERY student should have access to debate by clicking here! 7 Dunham Place, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (http://7dunham.com) is located within sight of the Williamsburg Bridge. It is walking distance from the L Train (Bedford Avenue) and the J, M, Z trains (Marcy Avenue). Click here for map. 7 Dunham Place serves local artists, photographers, musicians and crafters and is a center for the growing community of artists in Brooklyn, providing a hub for creative enrichment and conversation.

Aubrey Semple
Joins NYC Debate as Program Director!
We are honored to announce that Aubrey Semple will be joining us full time as Program Director for the New York City Urban Debate League! Aubrey is an alumni of the NYCUDL and has been an award winning NYCUDL coach, volunteer, tabroom director, and this summer, director of the High School Summer Debate Institute. Aubrey is a debate coach at Brooklyn Technical High School and has been coaching for over seven years at various high schools throughout New York City. Aubrey Semple has coached several championship caliber policy debate teams including NYSDCA State Champions in Novice (2014) and Junior Varsity (2012) and Co-Champions in Varsity Policy Debate (2013). As a coach under Brooklyn Tech, debaters qualified for elimination rounds in nearly every national circuit tournament that Brooklyn Technical attends including becoming co-champions at the New York Invitational at Bronx Science (2013), Quarterfinals at the Harvard Invitational (2013) and qualifying a team to the Tournament of Champions (2014) at the University of Kentucky.

TRAVEL DEBATE TEAM BEGINS SEPTEMBER 19TH!

If your school has not signed up for the NYC Travel Debate Team then contact us immediately at [email protected]! We organize a travel pool each year of schools interested in taking debate to the next level by competing out of state at such tournaments as Harvard University, Yale University, Princeton University and more! And first tournament is Yale University coming up this Friday. September and October are actually the busiest travel months each year with travel tournaments nearly every weekend! Finally, we wish to thank the Brown Rudnick Center for Public Interest for making the NYC Debate League possible and the NYC Travel Team possible!

Registration is open to all elementary, middle and high schools! The NYC Debate League provides year round support - training, professional development, curriculum, workshops, outreach, debate nights, monthly tournaments which include student meals, and summer debate camps - anything and everything to support debate teams in NYC. The NYC Debate League staff is award winning and have coached local, regional and national debate champions. We also have a huge network of volunteers, alumni, mentors, and college debaters to support your team. 99% of our teachers have no debate experience and so we provide any training and resources as needed to start and sustain a successful debate program!
