Update from Our Temple President

March 20, 2015

Dear Fellow Congregant:

There are several updates and timely matters to communicate to everyone.

Board Elections

At our Annual Congregational Meeting on June 1, 2015, we will elect the Board of Directors of the Temple for the 2015-16 operating year.  The seats on the Board that are to be filled are the following:

  • Four (4) congregants to serve in the three (3) year terms and,
  • One (1) congregant who will serve a one (1) year term to fill an unexpired seat.

As per the Bylaws, we are following the stated process which is the following:

  • The Nominating Committee (consisting of the five VP's, the immediate past president, two Board members, three non- Board members and myself) has met to discuss candidates and make recommendations.
  • Upon the candidates giving their consent to be voted for election, the Nominating Committee will submit the names to the Board and, subsequently, to the congregation at the Annual Meeting on June 1st.
  • In addition to the nominations through the Nominating Committee, congregants may make nominations by written petition of at least 20 congregants.  The petitions are to be filed with the Board Secretary (Renee Schreibman) at least 10 days prior to the Annual Meeting.
  • Please note that nominations from the floor at the Annual Meeting are not permitted.

Senior Rabbi Search Update

Regarding our search process for our next Senior Rabbi, I am pleased to inform you that Moira Quinn Klein and Adam Bernstein have agreed to be our Co-Chairs of the Search Committee.  I extend my heartfelt thanks to Moira and Adam for accepting this leadership role.  The members of the Search Committee will be formalized in the upcoming weeks.

Related to the search process, the Transition Task Group continues to work on identifying key character traits and talents needed in our next Senior Rabbi to continue moving forward on our path articulated by the Strategic Plan and relational Judaism.  As well, we, with the help of Jeff Bierer of Bierer Research Group, will be soon reaching out to all congregants to collect input on what is most important to you.

Financial Status

Lastly, I stated in my congregational letter in December 2014 that I would report back in March on the financial status for the current operating year ending June 30, 2015.  I'm pleased to share the forecasted budget shortfall for the year ending has improved and is approximately $20,000.  (The previous forecast in December was $38,000).  We will be able to cover the forecasted shortfall because of the generous and thoughtful donations we have received.  On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are grateful for your support.

Volunteers

In closing, I want to thank our volunteers.  We are volunteer- strong and fortunate!  Our volunteers answer phones and greet guests in our lobby, participate on our committees, lead our committees, teach our youth, care for our congregants, help in our gift shop, bake foods, plan functions, provide assistance to our greater community, and commit their valuable time to the greater good of building community!  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jack Levinson

President
