Superheroes and Judaism: Movies, TV, Comics, Books, and More!

Classes meet on three consecutive Wednesdays, February 5th, 12th, & 19th from 7:00-9:00 pm.  Join Rabbi Jonathan and Sara Bryan Markovits for a multi-media exploration of the Jewish imagination's expression into the realm of superheroes.

Charlotte Civic Orchestra Concert
Sunday February 23rd at 3:30 pm at Temple Beth El

 

Join the Charlotte Civic Orchestra in "A Symphony and a Movie" concert conducted by Dr. Geoffrey Whitehead.  Selections will include the majestic Brahms Symphony No. 2, a silent movie comedy entitled "Never Weaken" with a new original musical score composed by Dean Kluesner. Also included in the performance will be beloved theme from the "Exodus" movie. Delightful family entertainment awaits you!  Tickets prices are $15, $12 for seniors and students, and $35 for families and may be purchased at the door or visiting the website Here.

Our Condolences

 

Doris Meyer, mother of Jody Pinion, died January 27, 2014 in New Hampshire. There is no memorial service planned at this time.

 

Tessie Nerenberg, grandmother of Brad Abeles, died on February 1, 2014. She was 100 years old!  The funeral is out of town.

 

Edward Norman Cutler, father of Lori Roe, died on January 11, 2014. The funeral was out of town.

on February 7-8th!

Friday, February 7th - 8:00pm: "Late at the Eight Shabbat Experience" - In a coffee-house setting, enjoy Dr. Dulin's creative and dynamic presentation as she introduces us to exceptional Biblical characters.
 
Saturday, February 8th - 9:00am: Shabbat Morning Workshop - "The Book of Esther: Then and Today."
11:00am: Congregational Shabbat service with the D'var Torah presented by Dr. Dulin. 
5:00pm: Havdalah "Purim Katan" - Dr. Dulin will explore issues surrounding the Jewish calendar.

Every year the Temple Beth El Caring Community delivers Purim bags to our senior congregants age 75+.  If you are interested in baking hamentashen, donating fruit or candy, or delivering the bags to 8-10 congregants during the March 10-15 timeframe, please volunteer.  Contact Karen Greenblatt

The Youth Engagement Committee would like to thank all our TBE families for joining us on Saturday at the Bingo Fundraiser! Terrific prizes were won and everyone enjoyed the Ice Cream Sundae Table!  Thank you all for supporting our stellar TBE Youth Programs!

 

March Madness Youth Fundraiser

Support our outstanding youth programs by purchasing a March Madness bracket!  Before March 1st, the cost is 1 bracket for $10, and 3 for $20.  Purchase them Here.

 

11th & 12th graders: Don't miss our Upperclassmen Night Out at Sports Connection!  Come to services at Beth El at 6 PM, and arrange for transportation to Sports Connection Ballantyne - 11611 Ardrey Kell Road.  Bring $20 for bowling and laser tag! 7th/8th grade families who are signed up for Hatikvah Kallah

Don't forget to come to come to our Mandatory Hatikvah Kallah orientation meeting on Sunday, 2/9 from 1:30-2:30 in Archer Chapel, where we will answer all of your questions about your teen's upcoming Kallah experience!  Email Dara Gever Here if you are unable to make this meeting.

 

Kindergarten-3rd grade families

Sign up for our KATANTY k/1 and 2/3 Movie and Havdallah on Saturday, 2/15 from 4:00-6:30 in Silverman Social Hall.  The event is FREE with youth group registration.  RSVP online by Wednesday, 2/12 at 5:00 PM Here.

 
Want to come to a kallah, but worried about the cost? Temple Beth El 

has AVODAH hours for you!  For each AVODAH hour that you complete, Temple Beth El will contribute $7.50 toward a Kallah registration or the bus-it's your choice!  The next opportunity:

  • Earn 2 hours helping at Tot Shabbat February 8th, 9-10 AM   Email Dara Gever, Director of Youth Engagement Here to sign up and earn money for upcoming youth programs of your choice.
