Second Annual Arthur Goodman Lecture on Law

Saturday morning, January 11, 2014, 9:00 to 10:15 am

Today, as we read headline after headline about children who are in danger because of abusive families, we can feel helpless. This year's lecture empowers us by bringing together a lawyer from the Council for Children's Rights, a Guardian ad Litem and the head of DSS in Mecklenburg County. They will be joined by our clergy to tell us how we can stand for children...our own, in our Jewish community and the community at large. The program is free and open to the public.  Read more about this program Here

For those who'd like to stay, the program will be followed by a Congregational brunch ($8/person) and an inspirational Congregational Shabbat service lifted by our Teen Band and Teen Vocal Ensemble.  RSVP Here.

SPICE DONATES $2,500 FOR SANDRA AND LEON LEVINE SOCIAL HALL LCD PROJECTOR

Our S.P.I.C.E. (Special Programs of Interest & Concern for Everyone over 50) holds many of its monthly programs in the Sandra and Leon Levine Social Hall. In most cases, PowerPoint presentations or other forms of information are projected onto the wall of the social hall.  When Temple Beth El was renovated a few years ago, the necessary wiring for computers and projectors was included and drop down screens were installed into the ceilings of the social halls.  Unfortunately, the lack of funds during the temple's renovation process did not permit the installation of a projector in the ceiling. SPICE is delighted to provide the money for the projector and its installation for this social hall. We hope that the addition and installation of the new projector will provide many benefits and opportunities to any temple group using the Sandra and Leon Levine Social Hall.

MLK Shabbat

A highlight of the Temple Beth El worship calendar is our Martin Luther King Shabbat.  This year's exchange will be with dynamic and passionate preacher and pastor Reverend Dr. Jerry Cannon and the choir of C. N. Jenkins Memorial Presbyterian Church.  On Friday night, January 17th at Beth El's 7:00 Shabbat service, Pastor Cannon will preach and C. N. Jenkin's choir will lift our service with their music.  The evening will conclude with a festive oneg.

We would like to make this oneg special with our "home made desserts."  If you would be willing to bake, please email Sara Schreibman Here.  Desserts should be brought to Temple no later than noon on Friday January 17th.
