Please join Rabbi Judy and our Social Justice and Action Committee as we take a closer look at Charlotte Mecklenburg's Public School Education andreflect on Beth El's potential role as advocates. Feel free to join us afterwards for brunch at 10:15 ($8/person) followed by our Congregational Shabbat service.

Special Naming Service for Congregants of All Ages

On December 20th, we will read from our Torah, a portion called Shemot which means "Names".Accordingly that Shabbat is called Shabbat Shemot-the Sabbath of Names.If you or your child has yet to receive a Hebrew name, we hope you'll choose one and join us for this special ceremony. Jim Driggers, brother Licia Brandt, died on Thursday, November 28th.
Rick Lippe, father of Lisa Moreland, died Monday, December 2, 2013. The funeral will be in Pittsburgh Wednesday, December 4, 2013.

Dads - bring your children (AND SPOUSES!) of any age for a fun morning of bowling - AND - do a mitzvah by helping those less fortunate. Bowling and breakfast are FREE with your donation of warm jackets, coats, warm gloves and hats, NEW sweat socks, sweatshirts. All donations of clothing must be clean and not thread worn. Those not donating clothing will be asked for $10 per bowler.

Learn to Read Hebrew
Night Class...Classes begin
December 4th
Morning Class...Classes begin December 5th
Temple Beth El is offering a thorough beginning Hebrew class that will give you the opportunity to learn to decode and read Hebrew. Classes will meet on Wednesday nights from 7:00 to 8:00 pm or Thursday mornings from 10:00 - 11:00 am in the Bernstein Education building on the third floor. Register by calling 704-749-3070.
Class Fee: $100 Members $125 Non-members. Class fee must be paid in full prior to the first session.
Minimum of 6 students required

Anshei Mitzvah
Adult B'nei Mitzvah
Anshei Mitzvah is an opportunity for those adults who have never had a Bar or Bat Mitzvah to participate in group study that will culminate in being called to the Torah. Classes will be taught by the clergy, Susan Jacobs, and master teacher, Barbara Feld.

Washington, D.C. Wedding for Same Sex Couples
May 2-4, 2014
Rabbi Judy, along with several Charlotte clergy, is planning another historic weekend of interfaith dialogue, exploring tolerance, inclusion and sanctification in Washington, DC with other faith communities. We have several same sex couples planning to be legally and religiously wed with a reception to follow. We will be traveling by bus, hotel rooms are being arranged along with filing for the marriage licenses.
