Face to Face with our Mortality, A Study of the High Holy Day Prayers with Cantor Mary - Bagels, Coffee, and Learning

Join Cantor Mary for a tour of the High Holiday prayer book. This is the most traditional learning of our Fuel for Elul offerings. We will explore the major themes and ideas of the holiday using the prayer book as our guide.

 Religious School 

Registration is ongoing for the 2013-2014 school year. IMPORTANT: Fifth grade, Monday Hebrew is now Closed!  There is availability in fifth grade, Wednesday Hebrew.   

 

The deadline was July 22nd to ensure that you received your session and classmate requests.  If we are unable to assign your child/ren to your requested session, you will be notified immediately.  Assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis. 

 

In order to register for religious school, you must complete all school registration forms as well as all Sacred Gift Pledge forms. Questions? Call 704-749-3046 to contact the Religious School office.

 Our New Fiscal Year Began July 1st 
Please Note:  Our Sacred Gifts payment card mistakenly indicated there would be a $1 per transaction fee for Bank Drafts.  There are no fees if you pay your Sacred Gift commitment with Automatic Bank Drafts.

Your Sacred Gift renewal letters and Religious School registration packets have been mailed. If you have a balance on your account for your Sacred Gift or Religious School/Hebrew High fees for last year (ending June 30th) you did not receive this information. Please call Candace Naliboff, Director of Congregational Engagement, at 704-749-3068 if you have concerns, or deal directly with our bookkeeper, Steve Rosenauer, to bring your account current.

 

We want to be sure that everyone receives the Sacred Gift and Religious School information for this year July 1, 2013 - June 30, 2014.  Thanks!

Mazel Tov to Barbara & Alan Katz on the birth of twin grandchildren, Sheldon Ann Mangum Stubbs and Alexander Buchanan Stubbs, Jr., on July 31, 2013. Proud parents are Meredith and Alexander Stubbs.

Condolences  
Sandra Moore, mother of Matthew Moore and mother-in-law of Cantor Mary Thomas, died Saturday, August 3, 2013. The funeral was held yesterday in Falls Church, Virginia. The family will be gathering for shiva on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 7:15 pm at Temple Beth El.

A Place to Honor and Remember

 

We are combining the former Flower and Yizkor Funds into one Fund for this High Holy Day Order of Service booklet. Today, as we are all thankful to so many around us and as we remember those who brought us to these holy days at Temple Beth El, we have the opportunity to honor and memorialize through our "Place to Honor and Remember."

 

These contributions ($18 per name) help cover the cost of being home for holidays which include security, technology and shuttles to offsite parking. The form is included in the July Whisper you received at the beginning of July. Please return your form to Temple by August 8th or call the Temple (704-366-1948) if you need the form sent to you. Join Temple Beth El to Help Lead an International Mission to Celebrate Women of the Wall's 25th Anniversary and to Promote Pluralism in Israel
For 25 years, a group called Women of the Wall have been praying at the Western Wall on Rosh Chodesh (at the start of each new Hebrew month) and fighting for things we take for granted such as having women lead prayer services, read from Torah and wear a tallit. Position Open at Beth El 

Temple Beth El seeks an intelligent, conscientious, motivated individual to work with staff, clergy and a volunteer communications committee to develop and implement relevant and effective communications strategies. The ideal candidate will be a creative, high energy team player with excellent computer and graphic design skills.

 

This is initially a part-time hourly position (maximum 15-20 hours per week).

 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for managing the day-to-day communications of the synagogue via email, print newsletters, website, press releases, social media and other communication channels. Emphasis will be placed on building effective communications and reaching target groups as identified in our recently completed strategic plan.
