Temple Beth El Sacred Gifts
Counting the Omer and Being Counted

As a congregation, we join the Jewish world in counting the days from Pesach to Shavuot, and from our Exodus from Egypt to our standing at Sinai to receive the Torah. During this first week of the counting of the Omer, we mystically mark the value of chesed. Chesed reflects overflowing lovingkindness. While this value is seen throughout Beth El,

chesed is most apparent through our Caring Committee.

Fast Facts About Caring at Temple Beth El
  • The Caring Committee made and delivered approximately 50 meals and provided about 100 visits to those who need care and companionship.
  • Since the beginning of this year (July 1, 2012) the Clergy have performed 7 weddings, 8 brises, 11 namings, and 9 conversions.
  • At Urban Ministries, 56 Beth El volunteers have worked 196 hours and served between 700 and 900 meals to our homeless neighbors.
Our Sacred Gifts Reflect our Love
and Care for One Another

by Cantor Andrew Bernard

We are strong as a community of individuals bound together through Chesed/Lovingkindness -

...supporting each other in our struggles

...reaching out a hand to those in need

...gently guiding those who have lost their way

...cheering each other's success

...sitting beside those who are ill

...walking beside those who are lonely

...standing silently and steadfastly beside those who grieve

We walk in the footsteps of the Divine, who lifts up the fallen, heals the sick, frees the captive, and keeps faith with those who sleep in the dust. Through acts of lovingkindness, our hands become holy instruments; our hands are the hands of God.
