Volunteer Spotlights
Meet Steve Lamb

What is more important to an employer, creativity or efficiency?
Steve Lamb
Volunteer Steve Lamb during a Mock Interview in Coach 2 Career

Steve Lamb posed that question to one of our clients in a mock interview, explaining that the answer was in fact both. You can't have one without the other, he explained. Over the past two years, Steve Lamb has become an invaluable part of the team at Catholic Charities, volunteering as a Mock Interview Specialist in the employment readiness program, Coach 2 Career.
Steve has many reasons for volunteering.

SRHS Students Bring Warmth to Our Homeless this Winter

With the arrival of winter temperatures and thousands of individuals living homeless throughout Sonoma County, Catholic Charities is collecting cold weather gear. Sierra Straub and Natalie Hughes, seniors at Santa Rosa High School, generously donated their time and efforts to organize a coat and warm clothing drive last month. In just a few weeks, they were able to collect 20 bags full of coats. Thanks to Sierra and Natalie for helping to keep many of our clients warm this winter!

This is a great opportunity for any age and skill level or for couples looking to spend time together making a difference in the community.

Check Out Other Volunteer Opportunities

WOW! In this New Year, the staff at Catholic Charities is grateful for all of you who help us reach out to those most in need! Last month, Catholic Charities had 223 volunteers serve over 2,100 hours. Our Rural Food Project volunteers distributed 42,359 pounds of assorted food, serving 868 households. Volunteers in our I'm Home Alone Program made 2,472 friendly phone calls to seniors living alone. In 2012, our Mock Interview Team helped over 150 individuals improve their interview skills and our Hire Attire volunteers consulted over 250 clients on what to wear to interviews. Thank you for assisting us in our mission to offer hope through services!

Wishing you all good health and happiness in the New Year!

Did You Know...
Volunteering Benefits Your Health

"The intangible benefits alone-such as pride, satisfaction, and accomplishment-are worthwhile reasons to serve."

"Over the past two decades we have also seen a growing body of research that indicates volunteering provides individual health benefits in addition to social ones."

MLK Day is Just Around the Corner

MLK Day Legacy of Service

January 21st is Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service, where volunteers across the country will be joining together to serve in their communities in honor of Dr. King. This year, Catholic Charities Family Support Center and Homeless Service Center will be welcoming a volunteer team of 40 AmeriCorps members who will be helping out with various landscaping and painting projects. Watch this video to learn more about MLK Day and the importance of service living.
